Tech Star
Time to feel all warm inside, PS3 owners - Sony has claimed that the super-powerful system is the only console that could handle God Of War III.The hugely anticipated game, which is due to hit shelves in March, is set to become one of the biggest titles of 2010. Many tip it as a 'system seller' for Sony - and now the firm has told CVG that the game takes full advantage of PS3 hardware. UK product manager for GoW III, Claire Backhouse, told CVG today: "The developers have worked hard to use the power of the PS3 to make GOW3 look amazing and have added features that are only possible with PS3. "The dynamic lighting solution employed in GOW III is only feasible through the computing power provided by the Cell SPUs. "For example, using the High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDRL) technology, the camera - when using Krato's sightline - will emulate the human retina, causing players to feel a sharp brightness when Kratos exits a dark area and enters a sunlit area, similar to how the human eye would need to adjust." +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 7, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 7, 2010 Of course it is, it's made by Santa Monica Studios, owned by Sony. <sensible post before fanboys start whining about PS3 vs 360> Stupid news post.
rajputwarrior
just like how uncharted 2 was only possible on ps3, and Gears is only possible on xbox etc etc etc...
Massiveterra
Apparently Bayonetta is only possible on the xbox
still1
Is it the size or the technology used cannot be replicated in xbox?
ZonoBurk
Probably the size. You can only do so much with a DVD.
_I am Reptar
Apparently Bayonetta is only possible on the xbox IGN even had to do two separate video reviews =P
AbandonedTrolley
Yeah typical marketing rubbish, same as Killzone, Flower, Uncharted 2 were all only possible on the PS3.
Elliot B.
Eventually, this kind of thing will be true. The PS3 has more untapped power than the Xbox 360, as well as having a storage medium that holds much more data. For now, I'm not sure.

Didn't we have HDR lighting in 2005 with the Half-Life 2: Lost Coast demo?
The Teej
Of course it's only possible on PS3, it's been coded for the Cell! It wouldn't run on the 360 :p
Buio
Still doubt it will beat Uncharted 2 graphically, which is the best looking console game so far. But it will look good for sure.

Not sure of your point. Still doubt it will beat Uncharted 2 graphically, which is the best looking console game so far. UC2 looks to be beat graphically by Alan Wake, GT5 and Mass Effect 2. Elliot B.
And the Xbox 360 has more untapped power than the PS3. Not sure of your point. Not really. The Xbox 360 is a lot easier to code for, so the power of the processor has been used extensively already. You believe the Xbox 360 processor is more powerful than the PS3 processor? The_Decryptor Veteran Posted January 7, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 7, 2010 Didn't we have HDR lighting in 2005 with the Half-Life 2: Lost Coast demo? Yeah, it's just marketing speak (the 360 does it too)
Phemo
Not really. The Xbox 360 is a lot easier to code for, so the power of the processor has been used extensively already. You believe the Xbox 360 processor is more powerful than the PS3 processor? The CPU isn't, but the GPU definitely is. Anyway it hardly matters. As has already been said this is just marketing BS. You believe the Xbox 360 processor is more powerful than the PS3 processor? Yes really. The cpu on the PS3 is better, but the Xbox 360 gpu is better, and the single pool of memory is better, as well as the 10mb of edram, as well as it's ease of coding for make it a better gaming machine with more potential down the road. It's really too bad that that PS3 has such a big bottleneck with it's gpu and the split memory architecture. Another reason we don't get split screen games in Killzone 2 and Uncharted 2. The system can't handle it. Yet we get split screen games in Gears of War 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction without a drop in quality.
George P Global Moderator Posted January 7, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted January 7, 2010 They really picked something poor to bring up when talking about this, I mean HDR? Something that was first done on the PC through DX. :p
+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 7, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 7, 2010 Still doubt it will beat Uncharted 2 graphically, which is the best looking console game so far. But it will look good for sure. I think it might based upon scale. UC2 is easily the best looking console game all in, Killzone 2 still beats many of the effects in it, but UC2 comes out on top. However GoW3 is going to have some ridiculous set pieces, you know that if you've played GoW1/GoW2.
Buio
Yeah, and it's hard to compare graphical qualities of different style of games anyway so might not be worth thinking about it.
Massiveterra
Art design is a big reason some games like UC2 looks good, and art design is not processing power. Same goes for a lot of games on both consoles. As far as KZ2, I do remember seeing tons of muddy textures and frame rate drops that account for the graphics
soniqstylz
Art design is a big reason some games like UC2 looks good, and art design is not processing power. A lot of the good-looking shooter-esque games this gen (Gears, KZ2, Fallout, etc.) feature 37 different shades of brown and brown-grey.
Massiveterra
hrm...didn't know color took processing power, I always thought it was just a design decision
