Half-Life 2 Graphics MODernized With Extra Shine

Recommended Posts

Cool, an update for HL2, a lot of people were waiting for something like this to happen, granted this isn't official as it's just a mod, but who cares:

A first-person-shooter that looks better on a console than on the PC? Blasphemy! But that's the way things were for Half-Life 2 and HL2: Episode One, which when ported to the Xbox 360 as part of the Orange Box, received several graphical upgrades.

PC gamers longing for the upgraded experience needn't wait any longer, as modder Filip Victor took matters into his own hands and created a mod which bumps Half-Life 2 up to slightly more modern times.

Thanks, but I'll wait until Valve relases its own version: Alyx facial animations are incomplete, though lighting effects look really good.

imho i think i like the new simplified facial expressions... the original looks cheesy and exagerrated .... i mean who makes those faces when meeting a stranger for the first time?

I think it was more of a way to show off their game engine.

Nice

Now we just need Black Mesa Source, PLEASE

Blimey =/ I forgot about that! Credit to them taking their time to make sure it's all good etc, but they shouldn't have ever hinted at a release date if there was no way they could keep to it. 6 years...

Maps portred to Source 2k7 engine.

No big deal.

i think its more like content (character scripting, shaders, etc) extracted from the console versions... did you not notice the different Vortigaunt powerup effect, different Alyx facial animations, and the northern lights in the last scene?

Stupid question. Do I need to enable this mod from somewhere or just install and it's used automatically?

Nm, it doesn't work. Seems to require EP2 too :(.

It just takes the content from the new Source engine rather than the old one (so new vortigaunts with particles, etc.)

If he's decompiled and recompiled the maps, he would have broken them subtly (same as Fake Factory and his crappy mod).

Humans with facial muscles.

Humans with facial muscles.

not sane humans with facial muscles, tho... but thats just getting abit off topic

i wonder if the modder added a few things here and there, or if he tried to stick as close to the console versions as possible, map breaking and whatnot....

Every single surface reflecting light isn't my vision of "improved graphics".

I'd say I'm more looking forward to Black Mesa Source and it's Half Life 1 redesign. It's actually a redesign from the grounds-up, not a rushed port to an improved/new engine(like this mod is, and like Valve's Half Life:Source was).

(I realize I'm comparing a total conversion mod to a graphics improvement mod, but hey)

So they waxed everything?

Not really. I'd much rather see a shiny marble floor than a dull one. To me, a dull one seems somewhat unrealistic.
