Recommended Posts

Cool, they are starting to finally make products for the console market:

Precision gaming manufacturer Razer is moving into the console peripheral business with the release a US$50 (EUR45) Onza high-end gaming controller and US$130 (EUR110) Chimaera headset for the Xbox 360?. The Onza will feature Hyperesponse? buttons, analog sticks with customizable tension, a programmable multi-function button (MFB) and wired connectivity for ?virtually lag free gameplay.? The Chimaera is equipped with a 5.1 Channel Virtual Surround sound system, a Daisy-Chain cable system and a circumaural design.

Pretty cool stuff. I do like my Razer Deathadder a lot, so they definitely have my attention. That said, I don't know what I would do with customizable tension on the analog sticks. I suppose this is for the super-hardcore.

From the article (emphasis mine):

Razer has also added a multi-function button (MFB) that can be mapped to act as one of the action buttons, the analog stick buttons or an auto-fire button by using a sliding selector switch on the bottom of the controller.

My friend's brother used to be a hardcore World at War player, and he would always complain that people were using auto-fire controllers to rack up kills with the semi-automatics. I bet he's going to hate this, lol.

says $50 for the controller so not bad at all. I LOVE Razer and have used their mice for years now at work and at home. I would love to have the wired controller, and looks nice with the glow on it

If Razer can give the Astro A40's a run for their money, then I no doubt will pick up a headset for my 360. I've always loved Razer (probably why I have a Razer kb, mouse and surface pad :p) so wouldn't mind having more.

I'm not sure how I feel about their controller having an auto-fire button and then using the words "professional." This would never be allowed in tournament style play. It's hard enough using your own controller but things like MLG would never let this come in with that auto-fire BS. Take that out and I'm game.

That might be worth it for the dpad alone. I would think about it if it were wireless and had the headset jack

Tournament grade controllers will always be wired. Also, 3rd party controllers will always be wired. MS has only ever released wireless controllers.

Also, here's a better image of the controller:

Seeing a clearer picture like that I'll probably NOT buy the controller. The placement of the back/start buttons.. are horrible. I could get used to the placement change but I'm quite sure I'll bump it randomly just because I tend to flail all over the controller when playing.

IDK, I like spending money on Razer stuff and I like the finish. I'm a sucker. Bleh.

I want to like Razor projects. but there policy of no replacement parts for purchase or an avenue to get them from third party really bothers me. I have there 5.1 headphones that I can't use since I'm missing the adapter from there plug to standard min-analog (head phone style connectors to sound card).

SALES AND ORDER INQUIRIES : N/A : RESOLUTION 26408

Q: Can I request or purchase replacement parts for my Razer product?

A: Razer does not currently supply any replacement parts.

So you need a stereo to 3.5mm adapter? Radioshack!

Engadget has a video up. It looks pretty nice!

I love how their redoing the d-pad, and the Razer representative said that they were going to make it more along the lines of a Playstation-style d-pad. That's music to my ears :). The non-slip finish is pretty darn good as well.

I was REALLY interested until I saw that it will use Razer's rubberized finish... I'm sorry, but I will never buy another Razer product that features that finish. I've bought two of their mice, and they start peeling within a few weeks, and within about 6 months they become disgustingly grimy and nasty (worse than any controller/mouse I've ever used).

Your skin must emit some kind of erosive chemical then.. I've never had any peeling from the finish like that.

I highly doubt it's my skin when people have had that complaint about Razer from the beginning. Do you even own a Razer product?

Why would I bother saying "I've never had any peeling from the finish like that" if I didn't own a Razer product?

But to answer your question, yes I do. I currently own a Razer mouse, keyboard and surface pad. And have owned for a few years.

Because you said "finish like that", and not specifically the Razer finish. It's not "like that." It is that.

Seems plenty of other people must have skin that "must emit some kind of erosive chemical."

Looks to me like the display unit (that was likely used only during CES) also started getting some minor peeling, if you look at the bottom left of the controller.
