Activision to "monetise" COD online News

Activision exec Tom Tippl has said there are plans to charge Call of Duty fans for online features in future.

"It's definitely an aspiration that we see potential in, particularly as we look at different business models to monetise the online gameplay," Tippl said during a business conference (as overheard by IGN). "There's good knowledge exchange happening between the Blizzard folks and our online guys."

Activision will stop at nothing to milk this cash cow to its last drop!

^ Thread subject: "IW hiring for CoD MMO" not "Possibility of CoD MMO." There's a big difference between adding in extra support for the rumor versus the rumor itself.

Reading through this reminded me of the infamous quote by Bobby Kotick:

we have a real culture of thrift. And I think the goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks that we brought in to Activision 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games."

That said, a part of me is definitely curious to see how an MMOFPS would turn out in the hands of a talented development team with a massive budget. Planetside with a modern setting and more stability?

as long as someone makes a multiplayer game as fun as CoD, i could care less. It has to be infinity, i think it's just activision messing around with everyone with that story infinity wards not making it.
