Call of Duty 7 release date and setting confirmed

Recommended Posts

This is getting beyond a joke here, yearly COD is going to run this series into the ground.... Not to mention switching developers/chopping and changing time frames.

God Activision are such a terrible company from a gamers point of view, from the money side, yeah fine, but I'm a gamer not a stock holder.

This is nothing new. If you've been playing the Call of Duty series for awhile, it's ALWAYS been like that since COD2.

Activision gives each company two years to produce their games. That way one year its Infinity Ward and the next year is Treyarch.

This isn't even that uncommon. The Need for Speed series is done the same way; Two different companies work on a game for two years. Every other year is a release from a different company.

Treyarch has always stuck to older Wars with their game titles; They've never done anything modern so as far as "switching time frames," it's never been different with them. Infinity Ward is the only one doing modern war titles now.

Call of Duty - Infinity Ward

Call of Duty 2 - Infinity Ward

Call of Duty 2 Big Red One - Treyarch (This one shouldn't even count tbh.)

Call of Duty 3 - Treyarch

Call of Duty 4 - Infinity Ward

Call of Duty 5 - Treyarch

COD MW2 - Infinity Ward

Yes, I know, but when I posted in the predictions thread that I reckoned the next CoD would be a Vietnam one, people just shot down my suggestion, and it somehow ended up into a huge debate about Vietnam games, which surprisingly, I didn't start. :p

Nobody shot it down, someone just said we had too many and I ended up in a discussion ;)

Im guessing its just gona be MW2 with a new skin? meaning yet again no ded servers :( Hopefully it wont have AI like waw, where the enemy and ur team can stand right next to each other yet some how miss when they shoot at each other. And missions where u dont reallly have a clue what to do

If Treyarch doesn't rely heavily on IW's engine, then it's not going to be just a "new skin." Not only that but there are (oddly enough) better features that Treyarch integrated for COD5:WaW that IW never has, so that should at least be a plus.

And what do you mean "yet again no ded servers"? COD5 has dedicated server support (see: http://www.gametracker.com/search/codww/?s...&order=asc) as did COD4.. Obviously MW2 didn't, but that was done by IW, not Treyarch.

Treyarch is doing COD7.

Whats the point in playing a game that you are going to lose at. I hardly think that they will let us play as the Vietnamese

Also Infinity Ward aren't making another Modern Warfare. Normal COD games will now alternate between Treyarch and some other company. Infinity Ward are doing a new IP, and have a hand in a COD MMO.

I somehow doubt that Modern Warfare 3 will be any good if it actually happens, i'm kind of hoping that they will wrap up the single player story nicely thou in the DLC that is due for Modern Warfare 2.

I love everyone talking about Mw3 and them making a new one each year.

im pretty sure IW said they are not making COD games next. its going to be a new game

at least in a COD MMO the do this, go here quest will make sense.

I hear 10% of the game is fighting! there trying to make it realistic!

I'd be willing to give it a try. I can only think of one other game that takes place during the Vietnam war: Battlefield Vietnam.

Vietcong takes place during the Vietnam war as well. So do a dozen other titles.

The reason BF:Vietnam and these other titles came and went so quickly, imho, is that Vietnam is a terrible setting. If it hasn't been done to death in video games(yet), it has been overdone in movies. It was a lost war that achieved absolutely nothing. What can you portray in a Vietnam game, besides standalone skirmishes? There ain't much material to make a good campaign from.

The Vietnam setting, from a design standpoint, has only two notable features - ruined cities and flooded jungles. You've seen war-ravaged cities in every COD game and most FPS games in general, it's quite generic. And jungle swamps that impede movement don't seem like a great gameplay setting to me.

They should do a future war .... with aliens.

As shocking as it may seem :p i can't stand alien games or anything of that nature because all elements of realism and plausibility are gone. I love a stock War Game with tanks, M16's and the odd Land mine. I hated Battlefield 2142's setting, have never played Halo (Lord may they have mercy on me for this) or Halo 2. The only one i ever did play remotely of that nature was Quake.

It may seem terrible i've never played Halo, but what is even more devastating is that i've not watched Bambi either!

I can't believe some of you said MW2 was dissapointing! Could you guys elaborate- i don't think we played the same game because I was blown away!

As for the Vietnam setting mehh well at least it's not ww2! lol and honestly how much of the sales for W@W came from people who played call of duty 4 and saw another call of duty type game and are it up now that infinity ward has kind of seperated the names mdern warfare and call of duty I can see the sales not bring as good as W@W

At the end of the day if you don't like treyarchs games or the setting or whatever let activision know with your wallet DONT BUY IT! but enough people are willing to keep buying that activision would be stupid not yo keep making them and really 1 game a year? What is that $50 a year doesn't sound too bad if the quality of the prodct stays up there

Well I think some of us find it disappointing because the single player campaign was still too short, and the online multiplayer is same-old same-old.

You're right about them doing yearly versions though. It's no biggie if the quality is still high. And yeah, ?40 a year isn't bad; that's what you normally pay for a year on Xbox Live Gold.

Despite its short length, the Single Player Campaign in Modern Warfare 2 is extremely well done. The Story lines are somewhat relevant in today's volatile world and although not all of the events are feasible, there is certainly plenty of entertainment.

The multi-player hasn't changed really, but to be honest it's built on the same formula as its predecessor that people seem to enjoy for the most part.

I am so disappointed with the removal of dedicated servers I'm back to playing mw1 and waw. With mw2 I can't find a lag free game to save my life, if I get <150ms ping it's one of my better matches, but on dedicated servers I have plenty of choices of servers with < 50ms ping. IMO anything over 100ms is unplayable, IMHO mw2 is a waste of money on pc.

Console gamers might not bitch about user hosting (because they don't know any better), but IW should have known better than to pull this with pc. Hopefully the next cod doesn't mess up this bad... EPIC FAIL IW!

Extremely well done? Well sure if you don't consider:

- The plot and the gaping black holes accompanying it.

The levels that were an inferior 'greatest hits' developed by what appears to be managers- "Hey they liked this bit from CoD4, mind making that level again then C&Ping the same formula a few times to pad it out? Thanks."

- The game is looking very long in the tooth

- The sound quality being shoddy in comparison to other shooters

- They STILL haven't managed to evolve the game past the same few set pieces and gimmicks.

Then sure, ****ing amazing game.

In regards to MP: People are stupid. People bought Wii Fit.

I think that's my quota of MW2 bashing done for this week. :F
