AVI Media Update on Offline Console?

Recommended Posts

Is it possible to download the media update required to play Avi movie files and burn it to a disc to update a 360 which has no available internet connection? Or even if I were to take the HDD to someone elses Xbox could I download it on their 360 and then put the HDD back on mine would that work?

Photos are unavailable whatever they are.

It's not banned, the problem is that the ethernet socket actually just closed up one day and I'm too poor to buy a wireless adapter, so I can't get it online :ninja:

EDIT:

Ahh it's your sig.

EDIT 2:

I forgot about the HDD/achievement functionality being disabled by a ban as well. fml :p

I dunno why people assume I have an original Xbox, I don't, but Cheers :)

I never used Media Center on the 360, only thing I want to be able to do is play AVIs on it, and can't that be done on any modern dvd player, even a budget one like Tesco's own.

Looks like I'm gonna end up buying a DVD player.

That wasn't what I meant, and I know you have a 360.

Try looking at this https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=850940

I think that this allows you to add custom Codecs, which would also allow you to play mkv's

Fair enough, I don't follow what you meant then sorry.

Looks like that only works on Pre NXE Consoles, which mine is not :(

This is due to the copy protection on the 360, the current download for this media codec isn't for this xbox/hard drive.

you'll need to delete the media codecs, and download it using a Gamertag that has never downloaded it before

Create a new one if you have to, just to download this update, then you'll be able to play AVIs offline

Or do the license transfer thing from the xbox website.

But both would require being able to go online, at least for a few minutes.

Does the Fall 09 System Update include the Optional Media Update with AVI codecs?

Nope it doesn't, the optional media update is like arcade games / dlc, its tied to the profile / console that downloads it so your console has to go on live to get it.

The only way to get the optional media update working on a console offline is to jtag hack it.

Maybe try something like http://tversity.com/ i know it used to allow you to steam divx/xvid to the 360 by converting it to windows media on the fly.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion IN but I can't really network the console up where it's at, not even to the computer. No technical reasons for that just my room is always such a ****ing tip

Looks like my 360 will be DIVXless forever, oh well.

lol, tidy up? them moldy pizzas are only gonna get worse :p

Failing that do what Tristan suggested, buy an old Xbox 1 off ebay, softmod and install XBMC on it. Its not gonna play HD stuff but it should be perfect for any SD stuff.

Probably the best ?30 or so you could spend.
