Neowin Gaming Server Network?

Recommended Posts

I have a spare server at the moment, nothing huge but should beable to run a couple of gaming servers and since i like Neowin i figured it would be nice to give something back to the community..

I can probably run 2-3 servers at the moment, but if people like the idea i can expand quite easily. :)

I just wanted to create this idea thread to know whether -

a. Its worth creating such as setup?

b. Which games you would want?

Thanks,

Cameron.

TF2 would most likely be the most appreciated game to run - I see more TF2 fans here than anything else

If there was a decent community TF2 server and it wasn't loaded with mods and maps that take an age to download - I would certainly use it.

TF2 would rock. We have a lot of players here on Neowin.

Please make them "vanilla" though. :)

Dont worry, it will be liked playing on a REAL server with zero gameplay changes. :)

If this gets popular i can get teamspeak servers etc working as well.

Maybe even a clan haha xD

Yeah TF2, no custom mods. Maybe a couple custom maps like cp_freight and ctf_haarp :D

Okay, ill create 1 server for now, TF2 :D 32 Player Slots.

Someone give me a set of maps and i will create a cycle...

Also, if anyone has a spare guest pass for the game i myself would like a go before buying again, it bought it before but gave it away to my brother a year or 2 ago. :)

Wow 32 slots. Maybe it's just me but I find servers with that many players a bit on the spammy side. Especially on dustbowl / goldrush. I think 24/26 is the sweet spot.

Also if you're looking at getting voice comms set up, take a look at Mumble. It's the best voice client I've ever used.

Run defaults except for junction. Add ctf_haarp, cp_freight and pl_swiftwater. If anyone else thinks of more go ahead and suggest. Get rid of arena maps and possibly Hydro as well.

Never played haarp or swiftwater but another vote for freight (Y) It's definitely a map that's not played enough. I tend to stick to most of the official maps, and those used on clanwar rotations

Hmm well, ill be looking out for people to beable to kick users for spamming and such so dont worry. As for voice comms i was thinking TeamSpeak or something. :)

Its up to you guys what you want for server spaces.

I can create a maximum of 5 for now, but lets go easy and go for 2 for the startup.

First - Team Fortress 2, 26 Slots.

Second - ?

I say Neowin gets three TF2 servers.

1 in USA

1 in Europe

1 in Asiatic Countries.

Good ping for everyone!

I have 1 server i can use, and its based in Europe..

But it has plenty of connection and TF2 isnt that "demanding" when it comes to ping so everyone with a 2mbit connection and above should be fine.

A Neowin Team Fortress 2 server would be an excellent idea!!! :woot:

This for definate!

It might be worth looking into mamking it a subscriber feature for Neowin.

You may be able to strike a deal, as in, they give you free sub access for providing and hosting a TF2 Gaming server.

I'd subscribe for that :) (Y)

If you could make a BF2 server and there was enough people interested I would be in gaming heaven (Y) No better game to help the pain of waiting for BFBC 2 then the greatest multiplayer game of all time :)

Prehaps if it continues to get support i will PM the staff about such as idea. I mean, it would also cut out the spammers and such as well.. keeping it clean.

Hmmm.. or we could have premium and free server? The premium having several benefits over the free, more spaces etc.

Im sure we can arrange something mate, if enough people play the game :D

Don't separate the subscribers and the regulars when it comes to the Neowin server. Maybe have a small locked server especially for subscribers but don't go with this 'Premium' rubbish that servers have. It's almost like hacking.

Hmm.. i see where your coming from.

How about this -

1st Server - 26 Slots (upgraded to 32 if requested).

2nd Server - 16 Slots (Premium Only).

Not to put a damper on things but there have been a few servers before and none took off. Seems while people play, they are never around at the same time and the server ends up empty almost all the time.
