My Petition for a more stable Xbox 360

Recommended Posts

signed, only because i'm currently without an xbox because mine broke ten days after the two year warranty extension.

ouch, that hurts like crap!

It's like a time bomb lol...

I decided, my next box will NOT be a used one again haha... failed twice with that strategy within a SHORT SHORT time span...

I MISS GTA IV SO MUCH >.<

But you know what?

I ordered an Intercooler TS, some extra tall rubber feet and my box will get a place in my room that is fortunately well ventilated...

Maybe I'll have the dealer (the shop gives me 2yrs guarantee on the whole box - the dealer, not ms :) (brand new console from shelf and modded by dealer)) install also a HANA heatsink and some RAM heatsinks. haha

Anybody has experiences with HANA or RAM heatsinking?

I mean, the HANA chip produces a whole bunch of heat, it's a mystery to me, why ms hasn't installed a cheap AL heatsink there...

As far as I know Xbox 360's have gotten a hell of a lot more stable then the launch models and problems still occurring are of old hardware. IMO your petition is rendered obsolete.

you would think that, but show me statistics or proof of other kind.

I've had a 2008 model die on me and a 2006 model (not a sooo recent I know, but far from launch model)

nah, the 360 still suffers from the worst design flaws.

I've had later model 360s die on me as well, latest being in 2009. The shortest lived Xbox 360 was manufactured late 2007 (got it back just in time for Christmas), it had a life of about 1 week.

There is no point for me signing this petition, as I have moved back to PC gaming. The 5th 360 replacement was enough.

Gaming PCs can be had for relatively cheap. The 8800GTS came out on November 8, 2006 and can still play CoD MW 2 at the highest settings. That is a pretty good life. I do think overall PC gaming is probably more expensive than console gaming, but it cannot be by much. Console games are almost all exclusively 60 bucks...etc.

I am sure Microsoft has learned their lesson from the 360, hopefully no more flaws from now on, at least not at this magnitude.

IIRC the 360 has one more (if not more) hardware revisions coming. But no news about it or anything.

If you buy a new Xbox, make sure it has the Jasper motherboard. These are supposedly supposed to have resolved most/all RROD issues.

Any Xbox that I've had a problem with I've had my boyfriend fix it if I couldn't fix it myself. He's been able to fix his (and my) E74 error codes on launch consoles and recently fixed a RROD (error 0020 I believe?)

Or you can't look after your equipment. The latest Xbox 360s are brilliant.

Current 360, and those fo the last few years now are all well within the nominal 5% failure rate, in fact I seem to recall 3% being mentioned somewhere, and the PS3 which is also within this, is slightly higher, but pretty much the same.

yes, sometimes hardware dies, even the well designed name brand stuff. **** happens, deal with it. it's called bad luck or sometimes just not taking care of your gear.

4 years ago when there was a catastrophic 30% failure rate, that's when this peition would have made sense, now it's just silly.

LOL! IKR?

I have had 2 XBox 360's die on me, but both were from the original batch. The first one I sent off and MS replaced it with a refurbed one with an earlier Mfg. Date. The refurb one died this last summer (video out died, but no RRoD), and was out of warranty.

I picked up a 360 Arcade at WalMart for $99 the week before Thanksgiving. Hope it lasts more than a couple of years...

While the failure rates have come down a lot since launch, they still seem to be a little high. Theres some links on the news page of f**kxbox.com that have some good information. Raging fanboyism aside, some of the stuff on the site is a good read.

Regardless MS stepped up and did the right thing with the RRoD 3 year free fix. I got my sept 2006 model fixed for free 2 months ago. Now I have a newer 2009 model WITH HDMI which I didn't have before. So I actually came out on top if you think about it.

Jasper 360s seem to be fine now and actually within acceptable failure rates. They've been around since late 2008 and I have yet to hear of any mass failures with them. Even MS are clearly more confident with Jasper as the GPU heatsink has reverted to the old style without the heatpipe extension.

What really needs to be done is for MS to start using new Jasper boards without HDMI ports for refurbs (similar to how the Opus board was related to Falcon). Brand new 360s are fine, but repaired ones are still using the old reworked boards.

The xbox 360 has some nice games but the console is very poorly made

If you discount the now fixed RROD issue, it's one of the least fault prone products on the market, so I'd say you're really quite wrong.

Well I brought my xbox360 in early 2007 and i have to say mine has not gone wrong yet, as i allways make sure the vents and power pack are well ventalated, But having said that my brother is on his 3rd Xbox, and it has a MFD of nov 2009 does this mean its has the jasper mobo?

RROD is Microsoft's way of connecting games to RL better than any other console.

XBOX 360 is a thrilling experience, after having 1 RROD,you will have more tension every time you turn on your 360,every freeze will give you that extra feeling no other machine can. It's like Game Over in RL...

The petition means nothing to MS btw.As a huge company I'm sure they know better and if anything was to be done to improve the console it has been done already, they know exactly the percentage of failure rate.Newer models don't really die now,as explained above, the RROD isn't that much of a "menace"...look on gaming sites, there used to be tons of complaints, they are no more. When it happens it's either the 1st or 2nd batch of consoles.
