apreichner
I don't know if anyone's figured this out yet, you probably have. If any of you own a Universal Remote Control. I happen to own a cheap Radioshack one I picked up for 10 dollars. You can actually program in codes for the Xbox 360! I found this out by searching around and finding a thread online where someone found the codes to their DirectTV remote. I didn't own one, but I thought, "Hey maybe if I look in my code manual that came with my remote, I'll luck out. Sure enough, I found XBox listed in a couple of different places in there. (I used the Search tool on a PDF version of my Manual). I tried all of the codes, some of them worked better than others, but ultimately, I found one that worked pretty perfectly. Of course the basic Power, Play, Pause, etc. buttons worked perfectly, but some other unexpected buttons worked too. For example, the Guide button actually opens the Windows Media Center TV Guide (I own a tv tuner), and in there, the Channel Up and Down buttons serve the right purpose, as well as the Mute button. And the Exit button serves as the Back button. So check your remote manuals. I've verified the codes to be located in the RadioShack HD Remote, a DirecTV remote, and a Verizon FIOS remote. Most of the time codes can be found under DVD/Video players, but my Radioshack manual had it in a couple different places, so if you have a search tool, use it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- XBox 360 Remote Codes Some have multiple codes, try all of them and figure out which works best. Radioshack HDTV Remote (Model 15-135): 02049, 20522, 21708 Verizon FIOS Philips RC 1445301 or 1445302 Remote: 0549 Verizon FIOS Motorola DRC800 Universal Remote: 0522 DirecTV Universal Remote: 20522 More to come, if you find one, let me know and I'll post it here. OR: If anyone owns a Windows Media Center remote, those work out of the box. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The only real disadvantage to it is: Its a remote, so it uses infrared. The sensor is the black thing on the front of the Xbox. So generally you need a clear line of sight to your xbox. If you don't have it, might as well use the bluetooth controller which does not require a direct line of sight. MR_Candyman
care to post codes? I have the Philips (Panasonic?) version of the most popular radio shack one and have never found 360 codes for it. I would like to get it working if I could. I have the Philips (Panasonic?) version of the most popular radio shack one and have never found 360 codes for it. I would like to get it working if I could. I would need the model number for the remote control. My Remote just says Radioshack HDTV Remote on it. I guess it's the RadioShack brand also. I'll try to find my codes and update the post with them, but not all codes work on every remote. For example, mine are different than the DirecTV remote. apreichner
Damn could of saved a few bucks instead of getting a Harmony =/ Yeah, don't see the point of spending 100+ on a remote. Plus if I did own one like that, i'd be treating it like a baby, which is far superior to what my remote gets treated like. I throw it around, drop it behind my bed, step on it, sleep on it, who knows...
HawkMan
The Harmony is a lot more than just a universal remote though. and they don't need to be babied, my "new" harmony one certainly hasn't been and it's built very well. also no need to buy batteries for it. and action based is a lot better than device based remote operation. As a bonus thanks to the screen, it can completely replace other remotes, not just well it "works"

Phantom Helix
Damn could of saved a few bucks instead of getting a Harmony =/ I bought 2 of them and never used them because they sucked and never really worked that well, I thought the Onscreen display was hard to read and very very slow They are still sitting around here somewhere
MR_Candyman
hmm...mine's a 3 digit code it needs. It's a Philips CL015
leesmithg
As the remotes emit a certain infra red wavelengths, I guess my HD bSkyb remote could do the same.
apreichner
hmm...mine's a 3 digit code it needs. It's a Philips CL015 Well it appears to be a really old remote. SO there are no manuals I can find or anything, so your best bet is going to have to try these steps: http://www.bobvila.com/wwwboard/messages/289928.html And hope your Xbox turns off, and then hope everything else works decently. Or... Find a friends Universal remote, program it to work with the 360, and then see if your remote can learn the info from the other remote, sometimes they can do that. But if I were you, I would just go to RadioShack and pick up a cheapo remote.
MR_Candyman
I've already tried the code search button. I've found a manual online for it and there's no code in there. The remote is about 5 years old. If I were to buy a cheap remote, I would just get the xbox one honestly...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Xbox one is like 20 dollars more expensive, and I don't think it can control your other devices.
