Will upgrading to OS X 10.5 on my Mac Mini 1.25GHz give me FrontRow?

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I have an old Mac Mini 1.25GHz PPC (1st Gen). It currently has Tiger (10.4) installed. I wanted to upgrade to Snow Leopard, but PPC isn't supported in 10.6. So now I'm looking at Leopard 10.5.

I was wondering if FrontRow would be available. I remember when FrontRow first came out it was only available on the newer Macs but I think it was incorporated as a feature in 10.5. If I upgrade to 10.5, will I be able to run FrontRow or has Apple locked this feature out of particular hardware?

I remember installing a hack a long time ago and that got FrontRow working on it up until an OS update broke it.

BTW: I can't seem to find a 10.5 installation disc available through retail. I've searched eBay, and they are selling like they are collector's editions are something, lol. I was expecting something like $20, but they are >$100. WTF?

I think part of the high costs are due to the typical "Apple ownership" mentality that comes with owning a Mac. You have paid big money for it and therefore it has to be expensive by nature right? The other part is if you look at some of the main Mac sites such as Macworld or Macrumors in their forums, you will see a good portion of people having issues with Snow Leopard so it by nature makes the Leopard disc set hold more value.

Some have been so blind as to compare Snow Leopard to Microsoft's Vista in terms of a premature release. I use Snow Leopard exclusively on my Mac and probably wouldn't "downgrade" to Leopard. However, several people might due to various idiosyncrasies with their machines.

I think Front row would work if you went for leopard although a 1.25GHz is not going to be nippy to say the least.

I seriously doubt that people are trying to buy Leopard because of problems with snow leopard. More like that leopard is the last ppc compatible OS X so it retains value for ppc owners and that as a product it cost over $100 when originally sold.

Hmm..yeah, spending $100 for software for some hardware that I spent $499 for ~4.5 years ago is tough to swallow. I may look around for a cheaper source :shifty:

Well, when I used it, I remember it being pretty good for standard definition video and music. That Mac Mini has a GeForce 7200GS, mind you.

Wish it had an IR sensor for a remote. I have RowMote with my iPhone that should work...

Your post makes absolutely no sense. I have Snow Leopard running on 4 of the 9 Macs in my home and have zero issues whatsoever. Please do better research or provide some statistical evidence prior to making such a ridiculous posting.

The OP is looking for a quick answer and you come in spewing a bucket full of absolute nonsense.
