Conan tells NBC to go **** itself

Recommended Posts

I have nothing but respect for Jay Leno as a car enthusiast. He really knows what he likes, his collection is amazing and his knowledge about his collection is what makes his hobby authentic and admirable.

However... as a talkshow host? I lost respect for him. Conan is the man.

Conan O'Brien's monologue tonight was almost poignant: "Hello, my name is Conan O?Brien, and I may soon be available for children?s parties. Welcome to NBC. Where our new slogan is, 'No longer just screwing up prime-time.' When I was a little boy, I remember watching The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and thinking 'Someday, I?m going to host that show for 7 months.' NBC says they?re planning to have the late night situation worked out before the Winter Olympics start. And trust me, when NBC says something ? you can take that to the bank!"

What a mess NBC has created!

Jimmy Kimmel is impersonating Leno during his show tonight. This whole fiasco is making late night TV x100 better. I am staying up too much for all this crap. :p

Since you're in the US you can watch it on TonightShow.com

Thanks, though their site also will not be updated until sometime later. I'll just tune in tomorrow. :)

Huh? Can you explain? Haha. I don't have any type of TV service.

as long as you have a somewhat recent tv you should be able to get it for free with an antenna.

I think the US stopped broadcasting antenna signal... But I'll check now. I still use an old tube TV since I don't do any HD gaming... But it should be from about 2000 / 2001 or so.

EDIT: No luck, TV didn't have an antenna.

on topic:

I really hope this all works out for everybody. I'm a fan of both shows, but I haven't seen either since summer. Conan always had me cracking up as a kid, and Leno as well.

Always preferred Conan to Leno. Over here we only get to see Leno (only his new show) and Letterman, it'd be nice if we got Conan if he moves to Fox.

The US transitioned to digital broadcasting rather than analog broadcasting, they haven't stopped entirely.

Jimmy Kimmel parodied Jay Leno for the entire episode today, wearing full makeup, including a giant chin, and speaking with a lisp. Chevy Chase came out wearing a Conan wig.

Jay is the one that needs to go over to Fox. Or retire.

when Conan was with Late Night he had terrible ratings in the beginning but he slowly built the show to what it was just before he left. and that was a hilarious, upbeat late-night show. He was well on his way doing the same with the Tonight Show and NBC just can't see a good thing if it knocked them in the head. oh well. I don't really care where he goes as long as he does some sort of late-night.

Jaywalking was a bit Howard Stern did before Leno.

His Green Car Challenge he stole from Ellen Degeneres and Top Gear.

Most recently he had Terry Bradshaw on his show and did a bit with a Chicken picking out Football picks for the week... again Howard Stern had done the chicken predicting football in 2003.

He mainly steals from Stern, but as pointed out above, and as many have talked about on Howard (I am a long time listener) they feel he steals most of his ideas.

Just a bit more info about what i said above and a source. <-- Warning link is NSFW

Now I know Howard Stern is an egotistical maniac that will pump himself up every chance he can get, but honestly being a long time listener of his, and then seeing the actual bits on Leno, I truly have to say I 110% disagree.

Here's the thing: Not everyone listens to every episode of Howard Stern. Especially now on Sirius. So just because they did a bit one time does not mean that Leno stole it. It is very possible they came up with the same idea on their own. If it had been a well known bit, then yes, I'd agree. But one time is one time.

'People on the street' stuff was done well before Stern. Hardly new. Its the delivery and the questions that make that funny.

Read it and find out! Sheesh.

Is there no way to completely block seeing posts from someone? So I don't have to see a person going spam-tard-post-happy?

Unfortunately no. You can block him, but you still see the 'you have ignored posts from' thing, which is pointless.

Imagine the backlash for NBC if Conan goes to another network and ends up beating Leno.

Hehe, odds of that (Leno getting beat out by Conan, not the move to another network) are about as good as Diablo III, Starcraft II and Duke Nukem Forever all coming out this year...
