Rob2687
Leno and NBC Strike 1 Hour 'Tonight' DealPosted Jan 14th 2010 3:43PM by TMZ Staff Jay Leno has made a new deal with NBC, which gives him "The Tonight Show" from 11:35 - 12:35 ... sources tell TMZ. As we first reported, under the contract Jay had been working under, he was guaranteed the 10 PM hour. By moving him to 11:35, NBC was in breach of his contract and needed to negotiate a new deal. That is now done, sources tell TMZ. So Conan O'Brien is out, and Jay is restored. Xero
We don't know for sure but if this is the case Jeff Zucker is a lot dumber than I thought. I never really liked Leno in the first place but I ****in hate the guy now. Not sure about you guys but I'll be boycotting that ****s show. They wanted higher ratings, prepare to have worse ratings than Conan. Leno is a piece of **** for accepting the deal too (if its true) what a backstabbing prick. I don't think it is necessarily fair to blame Leno for this. Put yourself in his shoes. He still wants to protect his job too and I think it was clear to NBC that they couldn't win against Conan, no matter how much you guys like him, Leno had the higher ratings against Letterman. This is the smartest business decision, whether or not you guys like him. I don't have an opinion regarding Leno, never really watched Late Night TV, so this isn't a biased POV. I don't blame Leno for wanting to protect his job too. I think everyone here would have done the exact same thing. It is business, not personal. Prosidius
This is why NBC is a 4th place network, they make silly decisions. NBC will long regret this. They steal the Tonight show from Conan and give it back to Leno. It's not fair that Conan only got 7 months to establish an audience. I really hope the Tonight show ratings with Leno are flat to leave NBC second guessing what they've just done. Once this is announced by Conan and NBC you'll be hearing about this all over TV. For viewers this is going to be the best week and a half of late night in years as the shows make there rounds on this.
GuJu
Yay! Jay is back on the tonight show then! I can start watching it again you suck. if more Jay Leno fans watched his OWN show then this wouldn't even happen.

Hurmoth
Looking forward to see Conan's surely eminent arrival at Fox :) Even if that were to happen, it probably wouldn't start for a year according to Nikki Finke. "But, if Conan exits voluntarily or involuntarily, it will take at least a year before a new show is readied and on the air." --http://www.deadline.com/hollywood/jeff-zucker-threatens-to-ice-conan-ill-keep-you-off-the-air-for-3-12-years/
macrosslover
I like them both, but shareholders of NBC, Comcast, GE or whoever owns NBC right now nees to be highly concerned because the excecutives are a bunch of idiots who have run the network into the ground and just when you thought they couldn't go lower they burrowed to hell. I don't blame Leno for taking the deal, he still deserves to get paid just like Conan, I blame NBC executives for destroying their lineup. I"m sure FOX is preparing the money for Conan. Xero
^ Likewise, He's made a lot of stupid decisions and it hasn't blown up in his face until now. He deserves to be out of his ass, especially for making comments like icing Conan. He's the CEO, act it. Conan has been the most professional of them all and this is how they treat him. I really hope there isn't any truth to this.
Hurmoth
Nikki Finke: EXCLUSIVE! 6TH UPDATE, THURSDAY 3 PM: I've just learned that, for the past 48 hours, Universal Studios President/COO Ron Meyer was secretly negotiating a settlement between the network and Team Conan after O'Brien's and his reps were threatened by NBC Universal chief Jeff Zucker (see below). "Ron is a former agent, one of the biggest in Hollywood. He could get this done, so NBC used him," a source just told me. "No one would talk to each other, and they talked to Ron. He got everybody to talk to everybody." The deal sketched out puts Jay Leno back hosting The Tonight Show, and Conan O'Brien exiting with a lot of money. But there are still some terms to be worked out which is why there hasn't yet been any announcement. But "anything can happen" now that Meyer is no longer involved, and NBC is back in charge. I can tell you there are definitely people around NBC Universal boss Jeff Zucker who want to keep Conan in place. "But Zucker is digging in his heels because of the bad press. He's being stubborn," a Team Conan insider just told me. Stay tuned.

Hurmoth
I would be shocked to see a movie come from this at some point. Or CSI do an episode about this, except someone ends up dead of course.
majortom1981
Conan is not stupid he knows there are networks that would give him a show instantly as soon as his contract is ended. I think NBC are the dumb ones because they would lose how ever many viewers watched conan. So that would be a huge loss.
Rob2687
I think his only option not considering any cable networks is Fox which has only expressed some interest in him. Even then it was said that the affiliates gain more money from syndicated shows and some other crap. ABC has already said they aren't interested and he's definitely not going to CBS. How interesting would be though if Letterman named Conan as his successor. We've already seen history repeat itself once.
Xero
^ That'd be really good. He already took over for him once. Although I don't see Letterman stepping down anytime soon. Like Conan he seems to enjoy doing what he does. Jay, not so much. It feels like he's in it more for money than joy.
