Ubisoft Delays Splinter Cell Conviction, R.U.S.E

US, January 13, 2010 - Ubisoft announced during its third quarter 2009 fiscal update this morning that both Splinter Cell: Conviction and R.U.S.E will now be shipping during its 2011 fiscal year, which begins on April 2010.

Ubisoft did not provide a specific release date for either title, only confirming Splinter Cell: Conviction will ship in April. No release date for R.U.S.E was provided.

This news highlights the financial troubles for Ubisoft, as the company now expects to end its fiscal year with a current operating loss.

"Despite a number of highly successful titles, such as Assassin's Creed II ? which is expected to reach 9 million sell-in units by the end of March 2010 ? and Just Dance ? our great Wii success during the holiday season ? Ubisoft has not met its financial targets," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot,

Ubisoft hopes to rebound in fiscal 2011 as the company plans to focus more on developing titles for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

"Ubisoft has already demonstrated its capacity for success in the high-end games market thanks to Assassin's Creed II, with sales 40 percent higher than for the first title," Guillemot added. "The 2010-11 line-up ? which is stronger in franchises for Xbox360 and PS3 ? reflects our refocused efforts and should enable us to both win market share and enhance our profitability."

That is actually about perfect for me. I've already got a few games to play in January/February that will be taking up a ton of time so around April I should be ready for something new.

My thoughts exactly. I'm excited to play the new Splinter Cell, but I can wait until April. It'll give me more time to play the current new releases.

The game has been completed for a while now. I really don't understand the strategy around it. Are they afraid of competition? Battlefield? Bioshock? Because there would be no way they would be afraid of Final Fantasy XIII. Completely different audience.

My gamefly release date changed to 4/30. If I were Ubisoft I would be more scared of competition with Red Dead Redemption

I remember hearing about Splinter Cell Conviction ages ago. I'm not the biggest Splinter Cell fan (Played Double Agent and I didn't exactly love it) but this game had me interested.

Meh. The length of time to make it is making me interest wane.

Apparently this game is a sort of "reboot" for the franchise because the feedback from Double Agent wasn't too hot. They made the controls for this a lot more user friendly (or easy)

The official site for it still has February, Ubisoft really need to sort things like that out before announcing delays. I'm disappointed to be honest, this was on my must have day 1 release list and my interest is getting less and less every time they delay it.

They have delayed SC:C for a couple of times now, haven't they?

2010 is offering great games right from the start. In my opinion, it is pointless to delay Splinter Cell, and then just have it compete with another highly awaited release.

Ugh........I was hoping for:

Jan: Mass Effect 2

Feb: SC: Conviction

March: Assassin's Creed 2

Now I have nothing for Feb.......granted I probably wouldn't have been done ME2 by the time SC:C hit in Feb, I was still planning on getting it. Now with SC:C coming out in April, I probably won't be getting it until I am done both ME2 and AC2. Oh well, guess they figure they do not want to pull too much of the PC market away from AC2 by releasing SC:C before it.

Here we ****ing go again! Seriously Ubisoft, this is just plain **** now. Talk about screwing us PC gamers. Now a focus on consoles? Ever wonder why sales are going down? Stop delaying PC releases, and do more of them. FFS.

Oh and piracy? Puhleeze.

Okay rant over, but sheesh.

Wow, look at everyone moaning. It's not like it got delayed by a year or something. It went from late feb to late April. I figure ubi wanted to space things out for the year, nothing wrong with that at all. It's also not like there is no games to play till then.

Ill moan if i want to moan the games been delayed so much and im sick of being shafted over by dev houses that started out on the PC giving console priority and delaying PC ports, Codemasters did it with DIRT2, Ubisoft with Assassins Creed 2 and Splinter Cell, its getting beyond a joke now.

No offense, but why wouldn't devs want to focus their priorities more on consoles?

Theres nothing wrong with focusing on consoles but dont do it at the expense of the platform that put them where they are today. I dont want to buy an RROD box or a blu-ray trojan horse and pay ?40+ per game.
