Ubisoft Delays Splinter Cell Conviction, R.U.S.E

Delaying Splinter Cell is a terrible decision

Naming it Splinter Cell was a terrible decision in the first place

Looking at the videos they got rid of the sneaking and brought more action to it - you even get more points going the action way :s

Splinter Cell died with Chaos Theory

Yes i know you can hunt around for deals, its not the point though i can do that with PC versions and get games for ?25-30.

Hunt around?

I can find all my games for less than ?40 whilst taking a leak and cooking a fry up.

Yeah your PC versions are usually cheaper all in (besides MW2, most of UK got that PS3/360 for ?25), but you spend more on the PC to begin with. Therefore most console owners don't mind spending ?30-35 for a game they want, their initial investment was hardly anything near that of a decent PC.

Plus you PC guys pirate too much, all the money is made on consoles nowadays, tough luck, way the world turns.

You can still sneak around if you want though. The only difference now is that it's not your main objective anymore. Besides Sam is on his own, no fancy support tech/gadgets and so on. Plus he's pretty miffed at what happened. If you had the ability to basically kill anyone with your hands etc, and were hell bent on revenge would you take the slow mo path and sneak all the time? I somehow doubt it. The game has just evolved is all.

Ill moan if i want to moan the games been delayed so much and im sick of being shafted over by dev houses that started out on the PC giving console priority and delaying PC ports, Codemasters did it with DIRT2, Ubisoft with Assassins Creed 2 and Splinter Cell, its getting beyond a joke now.

The PC "ports" are often better than the console versions that came out first. You bring up Dirt2 of all things, which is the first DX11 game and is all around better on the PC.

Who cares if the devs started out and made it big on the PC? The market has shifted to the console and they'd be stupid to not make that a priority. Specially if you take pirating into consideration. Sure the games cost a bit more when they're out at first compared to the PC, but the prices drop just as fast so you can hold out a bit and buy them for less later. I also don't have to keep upgrading my console like I do with my PC to keep up with PC gaming every year.

If you bring cost into this debate the only way the PC wins is if you just pirate your games like mad.

Yeah thats the age old excuse, piracy. Anyone can make a crap game then pull some torrent stats from the internet and claim piracy made the game sell crap. The only reason console games cost more is devs have to pay royalties which they dont have to on the PC hence cheaper games.

Its just pure laziness, they know they dont have to do a lot of work to get the games working on consoles as they have a set cpu/gpu/ram spec and they do the minimum required work to get the games working on the PC, just because theres money to be made on consoles doesnt mean they have to disregard the PC, not everyone wants to buy consoles and delaying games 6+ months between console and PC game isnt on whatever way you look at it.

Piracy on the PC is an age old excuse?

More like a PC fanboy fear.

The money is made on consoles, just gotta deal with it, PC owners dug their own graves, they don't want DRM, MS can't enforce any DRM through Windows and PC hardware is open, so everyone pirates their faces off.

With consoles, PS3 can't be pirated on at all and 360 is very risky. As a dev what's going to make you more money?

Has nothing to do with being a fanboy, ive had pretty much every console thats ever been out and i still find myself returning to the PC for gaming because thats where i get the best experience. Id like to see where you get your outdated information from, people dont have a problem with DRM, they have a problem with draconian restrictive DRM and DRM which destroys windows in the case of Starforce or online activation of only a handful of times and you had to deauth then reauth the game if you wanted to uninstall it and reinstall it. Its got a lot better lately with Securom which has release date checks or things like Steam which in a way is DRM but its not really restrictive.

Ive met more Xbox 360 pirates than i have PC game pirates, i have a friend who flashes Xbox 360s and he must do at least 3-5 a week, not only that Xbox 360 has no DRM, flash the drive which is a piece of cake then whack a copied disc in and bobs your uncle, you run the risk of getting banned from live but not everyone gives a toss about that.

I get it you are a 360/PS3 gamer dont have to act all high and mighty and that what you say is correct i see more and more of that of you in Gamers Hangout, you arent a mod dont act like one. Using piracy as a scapegoat is a copout, Xbox 360 has a high rate of piracy and so does the wii, on the wii a simple software mod dropped onto an SD card lets you play games from a USB hdd yet they are still thriving and developers are still flocking to the consoles.

I dont have a problem with them recouping expenses by doing console games, what i do have a problem with is doing it at the expense of the PC gamers.

Actually I'm a PC gamer first

I just don't like many PC owners kid myself the platform is in any way the best business option, nor as "pirate proof" as some like to think. There's blooming topics about people sniffling about the return of Demonoid let go on Neowin. When you drag an .exe file over and you've got a full game ready to play, there's your problem. And DRM? Even the mentioning of it and we have all the pirates crying their eyes out with boycotts and the likes, regardless of how intrusive it is.

I see things as reality for the developers, the PC fanboys with blinders on just get butthurt due to the reality, but it can't be helped, just the way the worlds turning and the reality of how consoles are progressing.

Well, it's just a matter of time before ATI or Intel figure out how to put their main components into a console box at a cheap mass-production price; then your "consoles" will be actual PC's with a DRM chip in them (not far from where we are today) and this thread's debate will be irrelevant. Nintendo will stick to it's roots and continue to outsell everyone else by a 2-1 margin while Nvidia, Microsoft and Sony sit around trying to clean the **** out of their pants.

Meanwhile, Nintendo will stick to it's roots and continue to outsell everyone else by a 2-1 margin.

Just what on earth are you babbling about?

What?

The only reason the PC is still going strong as a game platform is because it's ahead tech wise and has better pricing. That is, if you wanna pay. I don't go for the bleeding edge high end graphics cards though, I have a HD4650 1GB atm and am fine with gaming at 1280x720 or a bit lower, like 1024x768 or something. I'm going to upgrade to a HD5770 at some point, but until more PC games start to take advantage of the high level stuff in DX11, they'll just feel like console ports.
