+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 13, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 13, 2010 Capcom and Sega seem to be scaling back their Wii efforts, and now it would appear that Ubisoft is reexamining its approach to Nintendo platforms as well. The French publisher announced a downward revision to its fiscal outlook today, partially blaming the DS market and slow sales of several non-casual Wii titles. The company is now refocusing its attention on platforms that it feels will experience more growth, and those platforms it believes are the Xbox 360 and PS3. It seems that Ubisoft and other third parties are catching up with the trend that core gamers are actually driving the market. "The fiscal year 2010-11 line-up will be more focused on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the consoles which are expected to experience sustained sales growth in games for gamers in calendar 2010," Ubisoft noted. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot commented, "Ubisoft has already demonstrated its capacity for success in the high-end games market thanks to Assassin's Creed II, with sales 40 percent higher than for the first title. The 2010-11 line-up ? which is stronger in franchises for Xbox360 and PS3 ? reflects our refocused efforts and should enable us to both win market share and enhance our profitability." For the 2011 fiscal year starting in April, Ubisoft intends to ship a greater number of franchise releases than the previous year, including Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction (which was delayed into April), a new game in the Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon series, Prince of Persia The Forgotten Sands, Driver, Raving Rabbids 4 and, interestingly, "a new episode of Assassin's Creed, which will be the first in the series to have an online multiplayer mode." soniqstylz
No surprise there. Actually, it is somewhat of a suprise. At the announcement of the Wii Fit board (E3 '08, I believe?), Ubisoft had made a lot of noise that it would be supporting Nintendo big time, trying to jump on the bandwagon of Wii sales at the time. Tharp Daddy
The Wii's new theme song should be "drop it like it's hot", i wonder what suddenly caused all this - was Capcom just the one that kinda did what everyone else had been thinking of doing? DirtyLarry Veteran Posted January 14, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 14, 2010 If I owned nothing but a Wii, this would be without a doubt bad news to read, but I cannot say I am disturbed by this whatsoever. Now that I am a Wii owner (again), I have no desire to play anything other than 1st Party Titles. Do not get me wrong, t would be GREAT if there were good games by 3rd parties, but since the Wii is my 3rd console, I just need a good game from Nintendo every 6 months and I am personally good. With that said, I have rented House Of The Dead Overkill, and I honestly did not think it was bad at all. Chuggy framerate at times, but it was honestly just fun and really felt like I was in the arcade shooting. I returned it pretty fast, just because I had New Super Mario to play and needed to clear a spot on my Gamefly queue. I also tried the Conduit, kept it in no longer than 30 minutes and was REAL disappointed with it. Finally, I have the new Silent Hill game for the Wii on it's way, was shipped out yesterday, and curious how that goes, as I have read really varying degrees of opinions on it. So we will see. Massiveterra
I've actually been hearing otherwise, and that the new silent hill is actually a great game. Silent Hill Shattered Memories was actually Giant Bomb's Wii game of 2009. I'm personally looking forward to playing it, but I think it would probably be a summer rental since there are so many great games coming out soon. Silent Hill Shattered Memories is a reboot of the series that is not related to the previous stories in the series. I've actually read from several different sites that the game has one of the best and most original endings in a video game last year, and that the the mindblowing ending one reason why the game is so great. Nah it's not what I want from my Silent Hill game, no weapon usage at all? Sounds lame as hell to me. And Wii GOTY? Yeah like you wouldn't just blindfold yourself and pick something. Fair enough if the game has a good ending, but it's not Silent Hill to me, not what made 1-4, esepcially 2, one of my favourite series of all time. +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted January 14, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 14, 2010 I'm actually surprised. I used to work in a store that sold games and the Ubisoft rep that used to come in to check out displays always talked about how proud the company is of their Wii and DS range. ... XD Wonder why they dropped the ball so fast. Maybe it's something to do with Activision and their taking of all the cash from games that wouldn't go NEAR the Wii lately. :

PreKe
MORE 3rd parties abandoning the Wii, surprise surprise. Really? Capcom and Sega seem to be scaling back their Wii efforts The Capcom thing was based on some French exec talking garbage, and being slapped by Capcom HQ for being a dork and spreading false information. I'm betting that the Ubisoft thing is based on a misunderstanding as well.

macrosslover
meh..the sad truth is Nintendo will never notice. Unfortunately most of the game sales are Nintendo published games anyway and most of their fanbase buys Nintendo published games. Except for the DS, Nintendo systems have been basically completely sustained by Nintendo games since the Gamecube and the Wii never changed this. Giant Bomb actually spent some considerable amount of time deliberating all of their games of the year including the one for wii which Silent Hill won http://www.giantbomb.com/podcast/?podcast_id=134 The game has actually some pretty decent reviews from the other sites that I trust their judgement like IGN and Gametrailers I'm actually really looking forward to playing it, and will do it with the sound up and the lights down

Gotenks98
It doesnt surprise me at all. If all the wii games didnt look like ass on lcd thing would be alot different. Seriously the next console needs an overhaul on what they need to do. No more of this motion control waggle gimmick because its about to be a thing of the past once the other consoles get theirs.
