SuperHumanly
When playing either game, sometimes the game will slow down for a second, then go back to normal speed, BUT the FPS doesn't drop at all (according to FRAPS). It's almost like going from 140MPH to 40MPH, then back again.... Laptop Specs: Intel Core2Duo 2.5Ghz 4GB DDR2 RAM NVidia GeForce GT 130M Windows 7 x64 RTM the game gets around 23-25FPS normally, with the settings pretty much maxed out @ 1440x900[but with Motion Blur turned OFF on NFS Shift, because it annoys me]. Latest BETA drivers from NVIDIA [also had the same problem with the WHQL drivers from NVIDIA]
RadishTM Veteran Posted January 19, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2010 Tried disabling PhysX? Radish?
SuperHumanly
already is disabled. should I enable it?
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted January 19, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2010 Your hard drive might be heavily fragmented. Analyze it with Disk Defragmenter. And no, leave PhysX disabled.
SuperHumanly
Hard drive isn't fragmented, just checked -- but I tried enabling PhysX and I overall get better framerates with it ENABLED, so why disable it...? Just curious. Defrag runs weekly at 1:00AM and defrags my hard drive for me, btw.
RadishTM Veteran Posted January 19, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2010 I've seen frame-rate issues with PhysX in games before, hence disabling it. But if it works for you, leave it on (Y) Radish?
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted January 19, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2010 Generally, it's a good idea to disable a feature that isn't being used. I know GRID doesn't support PhysX, but I didn't know NFS: Shift did.
SuperHumanly
Also, the initial problem happens every time I bump into another car on the track....and I turned PhysX back off again, turns out it was my mind playing tricks on me, as the FPS is still the same without it =P
tsupersonic
The GT130M isn't meant to be a gaming graphics card... I'd try turning games down to lower details for starters.
SuperHumanly
don't know what else it's made for then, runs everything besides racing games at full settings just fine (MW2, Borderlands, Mass Effect 2, FEAR2, MW1, Etc) sad thing is, now gfx cards are only "gaming" if they can run that crapfest coding nightmare referred to as "Crysis" well....sad, really. problem is still happened, but not as much anymore, I think it's just a matter of background tasks tbh.... Also, if the GFX card was incapable of playing the game at those settings, and it was a graphics issue, the FPS would drop -- which it does NOT. Still gets around 25FPS through the whole race, despite the cars slowing down...
