Report: No new Half-Life this year

Game Informer?s apparently saying that anyone praying to see

Half Life 2: Episode Three this year may want to start your crying: it ain?t happening.

The mag?s latest issue says there isn?t going to be a Half-Life release at all this year.

The third chapter of the HL2 saga is now long overdue: Episode Two

released in late 2007 as both a separate expansion on Steam and part of The Orange Box for PC, 360 and PS3.

Last year, Valve?s Gabe Newell said that development was still ongoing on Ep Three.

He wouldn?t go further then that, though.

We?ll email Valve about it. But needless to say we want to see this now.

E3 or nothing.

Thanks, CB.

So that'll make it at least three years since the last episode.

I don't think Valve knows what an episode is. We're all being trolled by them calling it an "episode".

Episodic gaming my sweet pert buttocks.

Companies have developed new engines with games ranging in far longer than a few hours by the time a Half Life episode arrives, better be worth it.

Theyre the wrong company for it IMHO. Need people that aren't perfectionist and don't have a habit of delaying or rebuilding games all the time. They were never going to pull the timelines that was suggested simply because they are Valve and thats not how Valve works.

Anyway I'd be suprised if Episode 3 isn't a full length title. Even at the rate they develop things I can't see them taking this long on their primary franchise unless they spread themselves too thin with their other titles or they are doing some very major engine updates.

Thats dissappointing i have every version of Half-Life in my steam account and i want the final chapter, its not a good time to be a PC gamer in the last 3-4 years and it looks like its set to continue.

I dont know why there is such a big delay between games, i mean its not like they have to rewrite the engine this is meant to be episodic gaming which means the engine is already there all they need to do is the content.

That HL with the newer engine better come out, then ill probably play half life 2 : episodes 1 and 2 again.

I hope when chapter 3 arrives I'm still interested in HL. Because this is just crazy, they should just pull the plug and start something new.

Could this be a Vaporware award for Valve in the making?

Little ****ed about this though. The whole point of "episodic" content was that it would numb the pain of having to wait 5 years for HL3, a deadline that has since been and gone.

Please. We probably won't get Ep 3 for years, if ever. They'll be too busy working on the Left For Dead 2 expansion, er, I mean Left For Dead 3.

Well, that's what they get for keeping themselves busy with Team Fortress 2 updates and Left 4 Dead 2. I mean, aside from those two games what else has Valve been working on publicly? And it's a shame they won't release a new Half-Life game this year. It's already been 2 years and 3 months since the release of Half-Life 2: Episode Two.

I know more people who like L4D than Half-life :(

L4D is just the latest fad, HL has taken a back seat because there hasn't been any new content for 2 1/2 years.

I think another problem valve suffers from is the Source Engine, long loading times and pretty small outside maps and details when compared to others. I think valve would have been a lot better off using the unreal3 engine, allowing them to push the content out quicker and not having to worrying about upgrading the engine to utilise new technologies and cross platform.

Unreal Engine 3 wasn't ready when Valve started developing Half-Life 2. Valve should work on Half-Life 2: Episode Three and Half-Life 3 plus a new graphics engine.

I think the Source engine is one of the best things Valve has going right now. It looks great and can now run on modest hardware, the load times are very quick for me. I think it looks better than most games that are coming out on UE3.

Just a digital distribution system called Steam that is currently dominating the market. That is exactly the type of alternate revenue developers need to be able to take their time on games and make them fantastic, Valve is in a really good position right now.

The Source engine is great but it's outdated. It's time that Valve releases a new graphics engine. One that supports DX11.

I meant, what games other than Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 2.
