+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 24, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted February 24, 2010 Doesn't the origami figurine come with both versions of the game? Yeah I think it does anyway, don't know if there's a slight difference in them. All the Americans on GAF are talking about it and only the EU got a SE. DirtyLarry Veteran Posted February 24, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 24, 2010 Okay, as surprising as this is to me, I am way, way more into this game, and I have a bit of trouble calling it that to be honest, but I am way more into this piece of interactive media than I thought I would be. I actually really am into the story, and that says a lot for someone who usually does not care that much at all about the story. It is so far engaging, and that is saying a lot coming from me. Naturally my favorite part of Heavy Rain so far is the inspection parts, they are the most game like aspect of the whole thing, and I also love crime shows and all of that so I really like that whole aspect of things. I really do not hate the controls, but a few small aspects of them I cannot stand. The shaking parts I loathe, I just hate shaking the controller, and they really make you shake it pretty damn hard which is just stupid. LOL But honestly the controls make sense for the most part and do wind up being intuitive. Even very early on a good example I can give is when your wife asks for help with the groceries, pressing two buttons, one after the other and holding them, well that just makes sense to me and from that aspect I can say the controls work surprisingly well in some situations. Yes controlling the character is clunky, but I adapted to that pretty quick and as such can move them pretty nimbly. In fact I wish there was a run button as at times I want to go quicker than it will move. So I am pleasantly surprised. I do think they, from what I have seen so far, have done a noble job at being attached to the main character. I honestly do. And I have to say I disagree with Massiveterra's first statement so far. I think the parts in the beginning with your sons did serve their purpose actually. It established the whole father son relationship quite well I thought, and honestly without them I think the characters would have been way, way more hollow. Not only that but that play with the kids part maybe took me 10 minutes tops, and the whole opening in the house sequence maybe took 20 minutes tops, So not sure where the hour and a half comment came from. Another thing I thought was cool, and I knew was coming eventually, is when you are in the police station talking to them about Shaun's disappearance. For the life of me I could not remember what he was wearing, and I have been paying attention to details as I knew something like that was coming. Thought that was a cool little touch for sure. I just wish I had remembered. So I am probably just 2.5 hours in give or take, I know I am definitely past the corner store part Massiveterra mentioned earlier, and I can say with the utmost of certainty I will be playing this to completion, something I really had doubt I would be doing from the demo. And oh yeah with all that said, knock it off now you two. EDIT - Apparently I am not the only one that has the freezing issue. Luckily my save game did not get corrupt, or I would have been very unhappy indeed.
ynnoj
Man, I want this game. I'm still waiting for my new PS3 laser to arrive, so hopefully I'll have that fitted and working by Friday.

I think the patch includes the DLC, but one of the PR folk on GAF says Sony/QD are aware of the issues and looking into them. Anyway, I'll be interested to see what you say as you play more, the first couple of hours have been quoted numerous times to be slow, and the game picks up a lot towards the end - Just interested as we had our discussion about priorities recently and I remember saying I was shocked you had story at the bottom :p

Phantom Spaceman
The game is amazing. I beat it once already and have received 48 trophies out of the 57. I'm looking forward to another playthrough for my Perfect Crime trophy and then replaying some scenes again for the rest to get my platinum. Definately a keeper. soniqstylz
EDIT - Apparently I am not the only one that has the freezing issue. Luckily my save game did not get corrupt, or I would have been very unhappy indeed. [/b] First, I actually think it's the patch that is the problem, I've read that in a couple places. I refused the patch, and haven't had an issue yet. That said, I played for about 5+ hours last night, mostly because I couldn't put it down -- closing in on 3am, and my eyes are bleary, but I wanted to see what was going to happen next. And yes, massive, as a father, I could relate (eventually) to Ethan's plight, I could put myself in his shoes after that kind of loss. I have said it before, tho, Jason was a twit in the mall scene, and I'd have snagged Armand (my son) by his collar if he'd have tried to wander off like that. Also, DL, I had the same problem you did recounting details, partially because of the way the options were spinning around his head, which I gguess is part of the point. The controls become second nature, especially when you realize you don't need to use the left analogue except to change direction. Just hold the R2 to walk, no need to aim the stick like we're used to. I will say that I've wished there was slightly more interactivity in this drama. soniqstylz
I think I found the major plothole, btw, and for me it's nearly a gamebreaker if the theory holds. I'll use spoiler tags, don't read until you're past Ethan's third trial. During the conversation, Ethan says he thinks he's the Oragami Killer, because of his blackouts (and waking up with oragami in his hand). But according to the FBI agent, the killer has been working for three years. Ethan set up his first trial with the car two years ago. But two years ago, Jason was killed, and Ethan was in a coma for 6 months. Meaning, he's had 18 months to be the killer. If that theory holds up the rest of the game, it loses all sense. ynnoj
Quick note for any of you getting the SE from HMV. http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/02/25/heavy-rain-special-edition-additional-downloadable-content/ I?m sorry to say that there has been a last-minute technical delay with the Official Soundtrack, meaning that if you redeem your voucher code before 4th March, you will be able to download Chronicle 1 and the Dynamic Theme, but not the Official Soundtrack. If you redeem your Special Edition voucher after 4th March, you will receive all three pieces of content as normal ? and if you can stand to wait a week to start downloading additional content, that will be the easiest approach. If you have already redeemed your voucher code and have not received the Official Soundtrack, please contact your local customer service teams who will be able to help you. Apologies for the inconvenience, everyone.
Massiveterra
For anyone planning to play Heavy Rain again after you beat it, David Cage highly suggests not to. "I would like people to play it once ? because that?s life. Life you can only play once ? I would like people to have this experience that way," explains Cage. "I?m fine with [people reloading saves to avoid bad endings], but the right way to enjoy Heavy Rain is really to make one thing because it?s going to be your story. It?s going to be unique to you. It?s really the story you decided to write ? I think playing it several times is also a way to kill the magic of it." http://www.destructoid.com/heavy-rain-has-no-replay-value-but-that-s-a-good-thing--146940.phtml
