OPM gives Heavy Rain 9 in world-first review & other reviews

Recommended Posts

Someone starting a top with the title, PLAYSTATION RANKS THEIR GAME BEST EVER, like ya are trying to create some sensational following. Whats the point in ready that garbage when its so biased? You would have to be a complete fool to buy into the hype of OPM and the games they "review". Much better going about some 3rd party magazine or lone reviewer's opinion. There seems to always be one of these topics for any ps game that comes out, saying how OPM is rating it a 9 or 10. Who really cares about what OPM thinks about their games....

Wowser! It's not just OPM marking this game high, so doesn't seem that it's biased at all really. The game certainly has flaws, but they should be commended in trying something different and away from the mainstream shooters and driving games that flood the market :) I found it a great game although don't think it will hold much replayability as it's basically the same very tightly played out story.

OPM and OXM are filled with their respective fanboys on staff. Don't want to read biased reviews, then read other reviews. No need to come in here and discount the OP for reporting the news.

And actually I subscribe (I am an old man, I still love print even if it is outdated) to quite a few gaming magazines, which does include both OPM and OXM (got a deal $20 for both for two years). I can sincerely say OPM is a great magazine from a writing standard and they really do what I consider to be a very, very good job of not being biased. OXM on the other hand I have thought about canceling my subscription multiple times, as they are very biased IMHO. So yes, OPM obviously has the Playstations best interest in hand, but at the same time I really do think they do an excellent job of calling things how they actually are, and not wearing rose tinted glasses so to speak.

I have found them to be equally biased, which is why I stopped subscribing.

I'll get my first chance to play this tonight for a few hours, I never really trust reviews anyway. But after playing the demo it was a "must have" game. Yes I know there are issues and the clunkyness of the movement is a bit annoying but the idea of the game is very interesting. Can't wait!! (maybe I should have taken a sickie fae work :p )

I've lent this to a guy in work to see his opinion of it too. The more I think about it the more disappointed of the 'gaming' experience I get. Yes it was entertaining, but as a full price game I personally think it's lacking with very little replay incentive. Do we really care to see all the endings? Not really, I got my ending I know the story and the plot twists.

Fun while it lasted, but wouldn't recommend people to buy it. Rental sure thing (Y)

The only thing I'm wondering is WTF happens if Scott Shelby dies in that shop scene so early on?!

I do care about manipulating some of the characters, but I'm going to wait a while before replaying, a lot of people have said there's a lot of stuff to see you can't with one playthrough.

I guess cause I got my copy for £8 I would be a bit biased though :p

Which shop scene? To my knowledge, there's no scene where scott can actually die, including breaking into the villa

You can get shot in Hassans shop, I assumed it's fatal but possibly not then - Cage did say all 4 characters can die, but I assume if you can't kill Shelby off during the game he just means at the end :p

I loved the game, every part of it. Every decision, every step you undertook had something to do with the next actions. It was brilliant.

Ps. GameQuarter.be (Dutch/Belgian gaming site) gave the game 9,1/10.

I'm not going to read this thread for fear of spoilers.

I just want to give my input.

This has had me on the edge of my seat!! There are some slow parts, but I think only builds your connection to the characters, a very deep connection I might add, so this is NOT a bad thing. There is a ton of suspense and I have found myself often telling friends the next day about things that happened and thinking about what happened the next day at work. In the frenzy of certain situations I have made mistakes that have lead to tragedy just as in real life. The game gets you very involved and very close to it's characters, I have at times gotten very emotional or even angry in certain situations.

The only complaints I have about the game are the occasional stuttering and the fact that I can't save the game (as far as I know) at exact points, like when I have to stop playing and go somewhere, you have to start from the last save point. Aside from that this has been worth every penny. I tell all my friends and family that own a ps3 to pick it up. Loving it so far.

Just completed it about an hour ago. I just sat there sort of stunned, filled with all kinds of emotions. I really experienced all these things I've done and the things that happened to people. I actually felt terrible, I felt sadness, I felt rage... I almost cried to tell you the truth. It was so intense. There is way more to this game and story, I wish I would have had better reaction time, but I'm a PC gamer and only had the ps3 for streaming and blurays so I wasn't very quick, shouldn't have put it on the "hard" setting. I'll give it a few weeks and try it again. Damn, I can't believe how much this experience affected me. The only thing that took away from it was try to move around in certain places, I never got used to it and it could get so frustrating it took away from the immersion of it all. But overall it was a very moving experience and worth every penny and minute of my time.

Use spoiler tags and tell us your ending. I'm curious.

Started this lastnight, I planned on 3 hours gameplay (as the wife was still at work :p ) and oh boy I couldn't put it down :D

The atmosphere is tremedous, the sounds, music and acting just sucked me right in. Even the niggle I had with the movement faded away, I just want to leave work and play the game now

For those that got the HMV special edition or have any vouchers to redeem DLC,

Once the store is updated (at about 3) then the codes will work fine.

Previously if you redeemed you wouldn't get the OST.

Haha, totally forgot about the DLC/XMB theme/OST. I'll give them a download tomorrow just to be safe. ;)

Yeah but HMV sent an email with a code for OST just incase you had already downloaded the DLC when OST was not available.

Just got my free DLC code from Amazon... it doesn't work...

You need to wait for the store to update for your region.

I bought my HMV copy in-store.
