+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 19, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 19, 2010 Sony has revealed a stereoscopic 3D version of hit PS3 game LittleBigPlanet . A video demonstration was shown at MotorStorm developer Evolution Studios yesterday, along with a range of other developmental demos. Attendees enjoyed two playable samplers in the form of the magnificent Super Stardust HD and a 3D demo of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. LittleBigPlanet and Gran Turismo 5 were the pick of the non-playable demos, according to Eurogamer technoblacksmith Rich Leadbetter. "The stereoscopic 3D has afforded the parallax scrolling landscapes a phenomenal sense of depth," he said. "In the original LittleBigPlanet there can be an element of confusion about which of the game's platforms 'live' on which of the three planes of depth. Stereoscopic 3D puts an end to that, ensuring each of the parallax elements occupies its own distinct area within the 3D space." This, reckons Leadbetter, is a cool example of how the move to 3D technology does represent genuine gameplay advantages. Another eye-catching part of the demo was the starting sequence, which showed Sackboy change from 2D to 3D as he put on his own 3D glasses. Sony refuses to be drawn on exact games that will be released with its forthcoming range of 3DTVs, and won't commit to a timeline either. However, the screens themselves along with two PS3 system updates (one for 3D movies, the other for games) have been given tentative summer release dates. More details on the Sony presentation, including an in-depth tech discussion with lead members of the development team, will appear on Digital Foundry later this week. Geoffrey B. Veteran Posted January 19, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 19, 2010 That is rather cool however, as i have stated before 3D is lost on me and i know for the most part it gives a lot of people issue so i am not really sure how far this stuff will ever go more than just a gimmick. Well apparently every PS3 game is going to support it and so far they have been showing off things like GT5/Wipeout in 3D. If you're lucky enough to be getting an HDTV when the support is at it's main selling point, or upgrading an old HDTV, why not look into it if you have a PS3? You're going to get 3D movies as well. Avatar will come on Blu Ray in 3D on the PS3, you can bet that.
sweetleaf
I don't see 3d taking off that well. It has been tried before and flopped (i.e. Movies) The glasses are heavy from the reviews I have read.

On top of that, after watching Avatar in 3D, and talking to various people, some had headaches from the go and others like myself started to get a headache towards the end of the movie. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 19, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted January 19, 2010 Before this goes into the usual raging debate about 3D/gimmicks/etc, remember it's a free update to the PS3 there for the taking if you want to use it. Last time anything 3D and PS3 was posted people were running around sacrificing children as if it's doing the world harm.

I'd prefer games be actually designed for 3D, not added on as an afterthought. But also agreed on the point of whats the harm? Dont like it, dont use it. Its free. In many ways, 3D just seems to make more sense in a video game than for a movie, and the whole problem of finding content to deliver in the format has already been solved: a software update for the PS3 sometime in 2010 will enable it to provide a 3D viewing experience to "all" existing games on the system. We're sure there will be some exceptions, but it sounds very promising. http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/04/ps3s-ne...0-to-all-exist/
forster
I thought it was going to be a proper 3D version, as in from any perspective, but 2D game with a pair of specs on - no thanks!

It's another failed attempt at a gimmick to sell a small amount of product, and prey on the technophiles. It will end up being a wiki history entry in the downfalls of gaming (next to motion control add-ons).

Belazor
Not sure I follow, but ok. I'm saying that you're trolling the PS3's 3D update threads because the 360 (most likely) isn't getting it for free, and / or you would need a Gold subscription to use it anyway (like everything else that the 360 has gotten since forever). I am basing this off the fact that your avatar, at the time of writing my post, is the logo of Forza Motorsport 3, which I take as a response to Audioboxer's inclusion of Gran Turismo 5's logo as his avatar. Is that clear enough? :p Do note that I'm not trying to be offensive (although I do find it annoying when someone puts down something others are excited for), I'm merely writing out the impression I'm getting from your recent posts in this section. It seems you are trolling at least as much as him to me but.... and what function updates on the 360 have not been free ? the only updates you have to pay for are online fucntions. and well you get those for free to, you just can't use them since you choose not to pay for the online component. Anyway 3D will be useless untill we get glassless 3D TV's that are able to display both pictures at the same time. Like Philips 3D tv technology did. before they closed their 3D tv develeopement group agt the start of the so called economic crisis. which means they still have the patents for it so It's unlikely we'll see tv's like that surface again untill there's an actual demand and Philips see a reason to make them again and/or license them. Hedon
I am not sure where this "troll" comment comes from? I am as confused as can be. Not to mention, my avatar is the same avatar I use on all the gaming forums. I don't understand what that has to do with posting on game forums or another poster?
