Justify the text on Mobile Neowin

Recommended Posts

Has anyone on the development side looked into justifying the text on the Mobile Neowin? The width of the screen is so small, that I think justifying the text might look better.

Just a thought.

No it's good as is.

I agree that it is good as it is, but I think this would make it better. There is a reason why newspapers have justified columns of text when the column is a "small" width.

I don't agree, I'd rather have all my text spaced the same, then having 2 words be stretched out across a whole line (just an example).

It's very rare less than five words would need to stretch to the end of the line on an iPhone (or other device with a recently size/resolution screen).

Just saying what I learned from background in newspaper layout.

We never had an issue where 2 or 3 words were spaced across a line. The last line of a justified paragraph did not justify.

HTML Justification is infamously poor though, including older browsers having bugs like this ^. We'll have to look and see how Mobile Safari handles it, because while I take your point I KNOW there's issues with justification in CSS.

Traditionally, the last line of a paragraph is non-justified if the text isn't more than 50% of the width (or something). It does look pretty crap if this isn't implemented right.

Thanks for looking into it (Y) :).

I love the News section style on Neowin mobile. (Y) ......but I prefer the older forum layout. With the smaller font, as it fits more on the screen.

Smaller fonts make touch screen devices harder to use. With that theme, selecting a page number on a thread is a battle with an iPhone.

Yeah. I just go with the full page view for the forum and go landscape. That way I can zoom in and out. But I think this thread is drifting OT.
