Yusuf M. Veteran Posted January 21, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 21, 2010 Hey guys, how do you get on the IRC? I clicked on IRC next to Blogs at the top of this page and it says "not found" every time. DaveLegg Developer Posted January 21, 2010 Developer Share Posted January 21, 2010 Hey guys, how do you get on the IRC? I clicked on IRC next to Blogs at the top of this page and it says "not found" every time. Go to the front page and click "Chat", or just click this: https://www.neowin.net/irc We didn't bother updating the URLs on the old forum skin as we didn't think we'd still be using it! DomZ
Excellent news! So glad you didn't just scrap it and stuck with it. I'm also intrigued to here the explanation of what was causing the load issues. Don't be shy about the technical issues I'm sure we'd all love to hear about it! +jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted January 21, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 21, 2010 Indeed, you guys should recommend a client to use on your IRC page. :p For every OS. I'm assuming mIRC is still the weapon of choice for Windows.

Chasethebase Reporter Posted January 21, 2010 Reporter Share Posted January 21, 2010 You can use Mibbit, a web-based IRC client:1) Register your IRC username here: https://www.neowin.net/irc 2) Go to http://mibbit.com/chat/ 3) Hit the 'Server' link and type in "irc.neowin.net" 4) Hit the 'Auth' link, select "Pass" from the dropdown and enter your Neowin password 5) Enter your IRC username in the Nick field and hit GO. That's the simplest way to do it, but if you plan on visiting the channel regularly a client is the way to go. If you want a good client that is free and doesn't nag you all the time download X-Chat 2. This is the version that is free by Silverex so you don't have to worry about it. Richard Hammond
Not again, whats the point in taking the forums completely offline. Can you not run a temp forum for those that dont want to sit and wait however long it is gonna take, 6 hours is a bit optimistic.
