Why can't PS3 do this? (Blu-ray related)

Recommended Posts

First of all, just got the update, and God it's so pretty so Sparkling!!! :D

Anyway, it should have an update with Facebook whenever you are watch a Blu-ray, it ask you if you want to Publish on FB what are you watching.

You CAN say Yes or No (for movies you are ashamed of... Porn, etc)

That would be nice if you like to tell friends on FB what you are watching instantly, right?

That's actually a good idea, but might be even better done as an inclusion to BD-Live so it would work with any Ethernet-enabled blu-ray player, no? I always thought it should list movies you're watching on the PSN as well, same as it does with games.

just go on facebook and say you're watching it yourself? I don't see it as a beneficial update, but that's just me :/

+1 take a few seconds before you watch the movie to just update it or update it after

i just wished i could stay logged in while i watched a movie. is that to difficult? pretty silly it logs you out completely even more so, no access to xmb while in movie. thats all i want. the FB thing i could do without.

+1. Personally, I don't care what people are watching, playing or listening to if it's published automatically. :/

Why do you feel the need to let the world know what your watching?

Isn't that the point of twitter and facebook updates? letting the world know pointless **** about yourself as if you're actually that important?

"I'm eating AND watching avatar"

I actually like that it logs your out completely. I would hate to be interrupted by some instant message while watching a movie.

The worst thing when streaming movies is people signing in/offline popping up in the top corner :p (yes I know you can turn that off).

i see how having pop ups could ruin ones' movie watching experience.

but, a nice 'do not disturb' notice on with a nice set of notice options would work fine for me.

its about choice. In my case, i have a nice sized screen, so having a small notice pop up when i have a msg (option for onjoins=off) wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

And why wouldn't you want access to your xmb while in movie? why be restricted?

Point is why would you? Idea is you watch your movie, not sit and send messages to friends. Only thing I ever do when streaming movies is pause, play, rewind, change volume - Can't say I've ever really had an urge to use in-game XMB whilst streaming something.

A more reasonable explanation is probably all the PS3 resources get put into it as a Blu Ray player when watching a movie, rather than a games console - Like the OS itself switching from games console, to Blu Ray player.

Sure it can be done, but it would be one hell of a low priority.

It's about integration. That's what it's all about these days. If i'm watching a movie, hear something said and want to look it up real quick i can bring up the xmb, pausing the movie as it does most games launch the browser. Or hell, the ps3 knows what im watching, let it kick back some imdb info. Maybe suggest another movie i'd like in similarity. i can easily have it set to receive notice when i get a msg. i would possibly like to read it and answer back. the movie isnt going anywhere. thats why theres a pause in there to begin with. I'd like to be given the choice.

again, with sony's future plans on integration with their products via psn name or whatever, this would be something that would make alot of sense.

i doubt playing a BR movie takes up all its resouces. i would think a game such as UC2 would, yet i still have my xmb there.

Couldn't be anymore a low priority then having this facebook trophy/store purchases reports.

I'd just like them to add "Watching Video" or something when your watching a file. I use my Ps3 to watch just about everything so I get a lot of people asking me while I'm online and don't play games.

Its not the being offline, its the fact that downloads are paused while watching a BD or DVD :(

Downloads continue when watching a video off HDD or server, I guess the PS3 goes into a mode similar to standalones.

Indeed this is the most annoying aspect of watching a disc based film on the PS3 alongside that it is also the same when watching or recording on PlayTV, I'm guessing that this may be related to the fact that it caches to the hard drive for instant rewind etc and could cause issues if it was trying to download to the drive at the same time.

if this were the case, wouldn't we see the hdd activity light constantly accessing/flashing? which it doesnt when watching any disk movie.

My statement on that was my thoughts on why it stops downloading during PlayTV use, sorry for any misunderstanding.
