+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 25, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) Waiting at the airport is dull. Put down that payphone, funny dress lady! Hong Kong International Airport has just installed fourteen PS3 kiosks around the airport for travelers to check out free of charge. Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong has teamed with the airport to put the kiosks near the Terminal boarding gates and in Terminal 2 as well. The kiosks feature Final Fantasy XIII, Uncharted 2, Avatar and Assassin's Creed 2. It also seems that Gran Turismo HD is playable. As of October 2009, the average wait time at Hong Kong Airport is three hours — not enough to finish the 50-hour-plus FFXIII, unless the delay is really, really, really long. Source: http://kotaku.com/54...flight-play-ps3 Not really that interesting but when you think about it, how many people pass through an airport? Try a PS3 for free? Not bad advertising, especially to catch those that wouldn't venture into gaming shops/events.
Hedon
I think it's very interesting. I had a 5 hour layover last month on my trip from Wisconsin to Germany....in the Ohare airport, and I was bored senseless. I would have got an EASY 5 hours playing that bad boy. It's a great idea. Rohdekill
Just think of all the potential diseases you could catch by touching that controller! I think it's very interesting. I believe you mean Illinois to Germany, unless they recently relocated O'Hare.

Hedon
I believe you mean Illinois to Germany, unless they recently relocated O'Hare. No, I live in Wisconsin (flew from Dane County Airport (Wisconsin) > O'Hare > Frankfurt > Hamburg and back!)
Rohdekill
Okay let me think, WHAT ABOUT THE SEATS?! Think of some of the bums that have been there before you. Point is, why expose yourself more than required or expected beyond normal activity in a public place? I'm by no means a germ-ophobiac...but just the thought of touching something that is caked in sweat by some kid who looks like he hasn't bathed in a week is enough to make one vomit. If their intention was to expose gaming to a non-gamer, just have a screen displaying games in demo mode. Most, more than likely already have a portable game system on them for the expected long flight anyways.
scratch42069
A PS3 kiosk in an airport is nothing but win. Not only is it a good time killer for long layovers, it also helps make airports appear more friendly and fun. Hopefully this takes off *pun intended* in airports outside of Hong Kong. Jason S. Global Moderator Posted January 25, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted January 25, 2010 (edited) isnt anyone concerned about the hordes of people surrounding 14 kiosks? i realize most people arent going to care, but you'd still never get a chance to play in any busy airport. i can just see this in the US: some 30-something father/mother letting their 4yr old hog the machine for an hour not having a clue what theyre doing... oh, and blatantly not letting anyone else play b/c it's still little johnny sonofabitch's turn :p

____
They should have included a picture of all the systems with a line of people waiting to use them and then a few that are empty with the Avatar title screen on the TV
Eddo89
I frequently go to Hong Kong. This is umm, maybe 2 years "old" news. PS3 had been in Terminal 2 for long as I can remember. And it opened in 2007. To be fair though, it used to be just situated in one secluded spot, now it seems to be everywhere.
