+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 25, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted January 25, 2010 Looks like they're starting to roll in There?s no doubt Zipper Interactive have made a really great game with MAG. However, only time will tell whether or not they have made a truly exceptional one. TheSixthAxis - 8/10 Most importantly, however, is the fact that MAG's concept works. It works very well, in fact. What more could you want? Destructoid - 8/10 I'll keep posting them as they come in....
spacer
I've been looking forward to playing MAG, but I'm unsure how annoying the huge games are going to get. The guys at Penny Arcade basically summed up my reservations. Edited January 25, 2010 by spacer
NeoTrunks
I've been looking forward to playing MAG, but I'm unsure how annoying the huge games are going to be in it. The guys are Penny Arcade basically summed up my reservations. Can't say that was my experience :p. Then again, I was usually the one doing the sniping from within some bush. Got MVP twice in a few hours just from sniping anyone (enemies) that got near the objective. I'll be playing the game tomorrow night when I get out of work :). +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 25, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted January 25, 2010 MAG Beta vs. Final Game January 26 is just one day away with MAG arriving on store shelves worldwide tomorrow and throughout the week. Before you delve into your first ?official? match between Raven, S.V.E.R., and Valor, though, we wanted to make sure that you knew two things: What the differences between the Beta 5.0 and the final version are How we implemented your feedback from the beta to affect the retail game on day one First, let?s talk about the differences between the final game and the beta you tried out a few weeks ago ? the most obvious of which is the mode and map count. Whereas before, the Beta version of MAG only offered six maps and two modes, the retail version has a full five modes with 15 maps to play. The final game also includes a handy offline training mode, unique armors, new cinematics, art galleries, trophies, and the always-popular Veteran Mode that lets you start all over again with a permanent XP bonus and the ability to switch your faction after hitting the level cap. Of course, graphical and audio improvements are in there too. But our ?out of the box? distinctions aren?t all there is to talk about. We?ve also addressed a number of topics that were brought to our attention when you were testing MAG earlier this month, and will deliver them to you the moment you boot MAG up with a small in-game patch (roughly 60-80 MB depending on your region). Among these upgrades is the oft-asked-for ability to knife an enemy while you?re reloading your weapon ? in addition to a pretty significant framerate increase during player-heavy games and noticeable differences in the effectiveness of every weapon and piece of armor. Moreover, we?ve gone back and added all-new light settings for every environment and increased the amount of time you can sprint before getting tired. For a full catalog of additions, fixes and tweaks, check out our complete list of patch notes on the MAG blog. Pheee
So is there anyone on here going to purchase this game or not? Would like to get some experiences from players here, once they have got it, especially in the USA as it comes out today.

I am playing it safe by renting it (I hope as it is still showing as not shipped on Gamefly although it should be), so may not have it until the weekend, but I will gladly post some impressions once I spend a few hours with it. +StevoFC MVC Posted January 27, 2010 MVC Share Posted January 27, 2010 I preordered it and got it today from Amazon. It's cool. I haven't been playing console games lately at all though so I am rusty with the controls. The most annoying thing i have noticed after playing about an hour and a half is joining a server. It keeps putting me in to a game that is just about over. So I basically spawn and within a minute the game ends.
MistaT40
Can't wait to pick up my copy and play. So excited! Does anyone who have played it have any opinions on how it compares to MW2?

Does anyone who have played it have any opinions on how it compares to MW2? it's nothing like it... they're completely different games. If you like MW2 and the way the game play is you are not going to like this one. Routerbad 1 Share

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 27, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted January 27, 2010 Kotaku play it for 7 hours, not a full review yet Mostly though, MAG feels to me like the proper marriage of World of Warcraft and, dare I say it, Counter-Strike. Sure it's no Counter-Strike, nothing is. But it's a very solid, well designed shooter.
ph0bia
Well i played some lastnight, managed to get to lvl 12. Overall the game deserves an 8/10 easy. I had no problems getting into games and playing as S.v.e.r there was plenty of teamwork and communication which makes the game imo. Infact we only lost about 2 games of about 12 that i played. Cant wait to get home and play more :)

DirtyLarry Veteran Posted January 27, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 27, 2010 Well Gamefly screwed me royally on the rental here, apparently they now do things first come first serve, and even though I have had the game in my Queue for well over two months, there were people who put the game in earlier than me according to them and as such I am screwed and will not be getting it anytime soon. So because I am done with MW2, I believe I will be trading it in to pick this up. I want a new FPS to tide me over until BF, I actually did enjoy the beta of this, and although there has been little press about it, what there has been so far has all been positive. So I think I am off to Gamestop. If I do not trade in MW2 as I still have some friends who play it, I have a $75 gift card. Was just holding out for a game I really knew I would like, but damn it all I want to check out the final version of this, especially after reading Kotaku's little feedback AB posted. Already got a silver trophy though. The game is pretty good overall. Very smooth gameplay. No slowdown or lag with like 30 people on screen and smoke from grenades. Will play again some time tonight. Playing on Valor, if no one could tell yet.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted January 28, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted January 28, 2010 Well got the game in the post today. But now unsure what faction to join :( I hope the game helps and gives some background on the factions before I have to make my choice, any recommendations? There's a quote in one of the reviews or Kotaku preview about how you can create a new character in another faction and carry over an XP bonus or something, I don't have time to find it right now but have a quick scroll through them. I think it's something along the lines of if you progress to a decent level with one faction instead of starting you as a noob if you make a new character you skip the lower levels somewhat. Gotta say I agree. And WTF is with SVER. No one can beat them. Lost every game to them yesterday. Beat the crap out of Raven though. Already got a silver trophy though. Playing on Valor, if no one could tell yet. A lot of the "hardcores" on GAF are joining SVER, they were the most popular in the beta, so it's likely those with the most experience right now have joined them. Things should balance out as more people buy/play the game. I want to pick this up but I'm pretty skint right now, might wait for a good deal, my HMV gift card of £10 is for getting my Heavy Rain special edition next month for £29.99 - Gotta phone them up soon and confirm they are getting special edition in store and can I reserve. MAG, ME2, Bioshock2, Heavy Rain are all in my pre-orders, granted got them cheap pre-orders, but its expensive lol.
