MAG Reviews

Recommended Posts

If you play one mode more than the rest you will for sure play the same map multiple times in a row eventually, perhaps more often than not. I know once I played Valor defense 4 or 5 times in a row one night. Something that I could see down the road is offering 1 more map per faction for each game mode to make it so there is different maps, but still the same theme to each map to add additional variety. (Ie: Playing Valor we could defend the train tracks map or a new one if the dice rolled has us on the defending side)

MAG's maps are solid but a little bland, a little more variety could go a long way no doubt. As an online only game it's important to keep the player population interested, and the type of DLC delivered is going to be the deciding factor for MAG's long term success.

Either way, I've clocked over 60 hours into the game so far with no sign of slowing down yet, so I have easily got my money's worth. In fact I don't think I have played any other PS3 game as much since I've had the console.

So to you members who play the game a lot, what mode(s) do you play to get the most XP? I am actually pretty damn decent at the game even though I do not play much at all, but I played 2 rounds of Sabotage, a mode I barely play, and both rounds I was actually the 2nd highest score out of everyone, I check the Action Reports everytime and I sorted by All Players and literally I had the 2nd highest score both rounds, but I never broke more than 115 XP per round. One round was 115, the other was 95. It just seems I have been stuck on Level 16 for awhile now, and I really want to start progressing as quickly and easily as possible.

I have basically decided since I am done with Bioshock 2 I am going to focus back on MAG until Battlefield comes out, so just wondering the fastest way to get some XP from your guys experience. Is it being a leader? I really have only tried that once and am totally open to that if needed.

For me, it's sabotage on defense. I'm a fully specced sniper, so when I need to defend a point, I defend it from FAR away. Stay on your squad leader's designated frago point, and do everything you can to defend it. Heal your teammates, kill anyone near or far that you can see while at the point. As long as you are at that point, you'll get the frago reward. When I was level 13, I got enough XP to skip level 14 entirely and went to level 15. It was about 450-550 XP for that one match. Essentially, as long as you're following fragmentary orders, you will get double the XP.

Hmm, these reviews are better than I originally thought. 8/10 isn't bad at all. I was expecting MAG to be a 5 or 6 /10.

It's a pretty well thought out game. The scope is also pretty unique for a console game. All we need are some more maps to spice things up.

Patch v1.03

Available February 25, 2010 | 41MB (TPPS), 49MB (DLS)

Gameplay

  • Overhauled tuning of multiple weapons of all types (see "Weapon" section below)
  • Improved speed of weapon and gear swapping by approximately 500 milliseconds.
  • Fixed bug in SVER's Aralkum Mechanical Acquisition map and Absheron Refinery Domination map that allowed players to defuse a charge planted on a repaired gate or door.
  • Added a "solid tone" sound effect near the end of a charge's beeping detonation timer so that players know when the charge can no longer be defused and that they should vacate the area.
  • "Medium Improved" Armor now works as intended with the speed properties of Medium Armor and a defensive value greater than Medium, but less than Heavy Armor.
  • Changed resuscitated player's camera orientation to match the last camera direction used while incapacitated instead of the pre-harm camera.
  • Players no longer lose XP if a teammate is killed by an objective explosion caused by a charge they planted.
  • Respec Point requirements in Barracks have been changed from 3K, 5K, 10K, 17K, 26K, and 26K-Repeat to 1K, 2K, 3K, and 3K-Repeat.
  • Lowered the amount of damage necessary to kill an incapacitated enemy
  • All fired projectiles (RPGs, Turret Rockets) have been given a steadier aim.
  • Mines that haven't been triggered are no longer removed from the map when the dead player that deploys them respawns unless that player changes their Loadout (note: The maximum number of mines you can plant cannot exceed the number you initially spawn with).
  • Fixed bug that prevented "fully-resuscitated" players with more than 100 health points from receiving their full HP.
  • Fixed bug that caused players to take unnecessary damage from both friendly and enemy vehicles when touching them.
  • Players no longer lose leadership points after entering "Veteran Mode."
Weapons
  • "From the hip" firing for Light and Medium machine guns have stronger recoil and are less accurate when moving.
  • Tuned weapon damage for all three factions.
  • Modified all short-ranged weapons (pistols, PDWs, shotguns, SMGs) so that they're less effective at long distances.
  • Made Battle Rifles more effective.
  • Reduced accuracy bonus for using iron sights and reflex sights so that players can no longer snipe with weapons that aren't intended to do so.
  • Increased damage values for all rockets to make them more effective (ex: three rockets can now destroy a DE turret).
  • Shooting through thin materials (fences, tents, etc.) will be more consistent.
  • Increased spread on shotguns.
  • Improved animations for rocket launchers.

Graphics

  • Fixed bug that caused the recoil animation to end early or stop animating if a player was firing their weapon for a long period of time.
  • Changed detonation time on smoke and poison gas grenades to prevent them from exploding in mid-air to eliminate unintended FX issues.
  • Added realistic fogging effects to sky-domes.
Technical
  • Fixed most conditions that caused players to be caught in a "respawn loop" which kept restarting the respawn queue when the countdown clock reached 0.
  • Changed in-game conditions to make it less likely to experience in-game freezes.
  • Improved client-side stability.

FINALLY :). This is probably going to **** off a lot of those people on that faction with the fully automatic sniper rifles, though. Whenever I'd pick up one of those guns, I'd get like 5 head shots on the same person all in one burst.

Cool thanks for the response.

I definitely have noticed and see that FRAGO is the way to go, and this may sound incredibly stupid but sometimes it is not always obvious to me what the FRAGO is??

I am pretty sure the FRAGO is just is the blue icon on the map correct (or is it green I cannot recall right now)? I honestly tend to play the game with pretty low volume as it drives my wife nuts when it is loud, so I am not sure if I am hearing everything?

That would probably help me out if I knew what was clearly the FRAGO. TIA if you can answer that for me.

I played a match of Domination the other day and walked away with 475 XP, so it is not like I always have really low scoring games. Was 35 and 20 too, which is a decent K/D ration for me on this game.I just would like to consistently have good XP games so I can rank up and more importantly respec my character again, as I really hate my skills right now.

Larry, easiest way to tell what is frago'd(sp?).

Sabotage - Frago is always on A or B which ever side you spawn closest to, and the SL can put a frago on the opposite side so that both sides have the bonus. Then once those are down C has one on it automatically also.

Acquistion - Look for the highlighted location on upper left hand corner of your screen. It will say what objective is. If there isn't one there is an auto frago on the Escort Vehicle.

Domination - The Burnoff towers, cooling towers all have auto fragos. Then the objectives A - H which ever one is for your squad will have an auto frago on it. The same goes on here that there will be other fragos in the upper left hand corner again.

Also I know there are issues where the frago will not show up in the corner, so just hit select real fast and look see what location is highlighted, it will be bolded outline of the object that is frago'd(sp?). Also what PMC are you playing as because I am thinking of going to SVER after I veteran off of Raven tonight and always am willing to game with some level headed guys.
