Shibby
i just uped from the 150k to the 600k service and i turned me pc of for a few hours went shoping came back booted me pc up had to log in to IE and add the pc and then i had to phone em up cause after i did the log in it told me to shut IE down and reload it up i did it and login was still there so i ended up phoneing em up and they told me how to release my ip and renew it great everthing is fine i then went to a few test sites like adslguide and dslreports and others like it and they said my max downloads speed is 30kbps which it is, and the part that anoys me is it the same as my 150k so why is the max download 30kbps? when my upload is like 40kbps? what have they done so i am paying ?7 more for the same as the 150k. Any ideas what is wrong?
tomwarren Veteran Posted June 20, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 20, 2003 You should be getting 60k/s down and 15k/s up on the 600k service. On the 150K service you should get about 20k/s and I'm not sure on the upload. If you don't have 60k down and 15k up on the 600k service then phone them again and complain. RazorSA
I think that you should try to use some sort of punctuation. Put different ideas, onto different lines. Makes it easier to read and understand. (Sorry, But I read your thing twice, and I still don't understand)
Porkey
what modem have you got? if its a surfboard / NTLhome check the internal diagnostics to make sure you have got the right config file: or use docsdiag (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/docsdiag/) also you might want to pop over to www.nthellworld.com
+BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted June 21, 2003 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 21, 2003 Similar to what porkey says, open your browser, type in the address field 192.168.100.1 hopefully (if you have a surfboard or a webstar - Dont know what NTL use I am a TW Tech) a page will appear with options at the top of it. If it does, good stuff, choose the Signal option, and a new page should open, in here is the information you are looking for, basically you should only concern yourself with the Downstream Channel information first, look for the Bit Rate field, it should be the 5th one down. The information in there should hopefully be either 512000 bps or possibly 600000 bps if thats what NTL set. If its lower, 150000 bps then you havent been updated properly, yet. The other one to look at is the Upstream Channel information. Once again check the Bit Rate field, that should (rough guess here as dont know the exact service specs for NTL) 128000 bps Hopefully that will help you, if your details are no-where near what I suggested, call tech support/customer services and when querying them, offer that information as evidence ... Good luck.

TranceSphere
Make sure that you are on the 600k service and not still on the 150K NTL can be a b**** when it comes to upgradin/installing and getting the right speed. When i first got connected they put me on the 128K service (I ordered the 600k). And when i phoned them they kept on saying we will ring you back blah blah (they never did). So i kept on ringing till i got some one that would change it. My mate was also put on the wrong speed (he ordered 1mb and got 600K). Also is your STB (Set top box) an old model ?? does it support 600k ?? you could also try and post this in the 'NTL Hell World' forums (NTL tech people go there and help). http://www.nthellworld.com/forum/ Edited June 21, 2003 by TranceSphere
Shibby
thanks it a am pretty sure it can handle 600k. and when i went out and had to shut my pc down so they can upgrade i had to do all the login and release and renew ip but the only differnce i have found is that i can get a steady 30kbs, which i could sometimes get on the 150k so maybe the cocked the upgrade up i get my dad to phone em later saying i have not notice any differnt. mite as well we have 2 STB nearly all the channels 2 telephones line broadband and 56k(the parents). Cheers for ya help.
Shibby
also some of u may know this site http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker on they i found out this, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.wal...l.html#pacediag and this http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.wal...ips/cmfile.html and if i do the stuff on the first link and find my file on they i could probley see what it matches on the second link, thus finding out of my box has got the right file for the boardband. i get my dad to do it later cause i am scared to do it may screw the box up knowing my luck. +BeLGaRaTh Subscriber¹ Posted June 21, 2003 Subscriber¹ Share Posted June 21, 2003 Thats a new fact for me, thanks for the links Shibby, wasnt aware that NTL were still using the Silver/Gold docsis files, interesting. TW did away with them a long time ago, but I digress ... Make sure, as it says on the first page that QOS is silver.cm Dont be worried about the engineers menu, as long as you dont change anything you will be fine, although I dont recommend poking about in there (Im talking from experience, the number of people who ring up for tech support because they have inadvertantly found how to get into the engineers menu and changed some options to see what they did and then subsequently had problems is amazing) ... TW now charge ?25 for an engineer to go round and put everything back, not sure if NTL do ...
Shibby
yeah ntl probley do but for all i know the settings could of been like that i got a refurbished box :\ when my old was on the blink it was frezzing they replaced it with this one and i do not have that much faith in it since it seems slow. also i heard that they mite rid of the purple/pink menu back to the blue which i loved, the purple one is really horible.
