A Different Search Usability Issue

Recommended Posts

No. It's not this one. It is the search screen presented when one clicks the down arrow on their username pulldown.

It has two separate calendar dialogs to deal with. While the accuracy in date selection may seem nice, it really isn't helpful when looking for posts over a six-month span, for example. It is a lot of extra clicks in two separate locations when the one pulldown of the past search really did the trick quite quickly and easily.

I also think that it takes up too much vertical real estate, as the "perform the search" button doesn't appear until I scroll down. But that may be a minor annoyance for me.

Finally, the results returned are horrible! The same threads appear multiple times, diluting the results relevance. Plus, as a test, I tried searching for replies in threads I posted in over the past 3 or so days, and it does show the thread I posted in most recently (and it has been over 12 hours).

I tend to agree, the search results seem a bit jumbled. I understand how it is organising it, but it would be nice to have some sort of classic view of the search results, not sure of IPB3 supports this or not.

Also, with the calendars, I feel they were kinda tacked on as an after thought, they don't seem to integrate nicely into the form.

You understand the results? :o

I have 18 results. Two threads take up 14 of them!

The results may be accurate in some weird way, but they are not practical to use to determine which threads have been responded to.
