This is exactly what I've been looking for to get Firefox exactly as I want it...

...except for one thing: my active tab has an opacity setting (I'm guessing around 50%) whereas I'd rather that the active tab was solid.

I've looked through nav-tabs.css and tinkered with some of the opacity settings (as well as some alpha values) but without success.

Can anyone tell me how to make the active tab opaque? Incidentally, the border that runs underneath the tabs for the full width of the window still has the solid colour - even underneath the active tab.

Check out my userstyles. If you don't find one to your liking I may be able to whip something up, let me know. By default the bottom tab bar border should be the same color as the active tab. I'm still using AeroBuddy 1.03 as the newer versions are really geared for the Firefox 3.7alpha's and not 3.6. I recommend 1.03 if you're using 3.6.

Does this work on XP?

Aero is not supported on XP in any shape or form. The only way to get window transparency is with some unstable third party app or using Windowblinds themes, which to get the app itself costs.

And even then it's never certain if the addon will work.

Is there any way to remove the white line from around the menu bar ?

This is to do with the theme you're using, AeroBuddy is designed for use with the default theme and may produce undesirable after effects in others.

Yochanan, I took a look around your user styles and while useful in their own right, they didn't solve the little problem I have.

In my screenshot (first time I've used Jing and Screencast) you should be able to see what I'm talking about. Can anyone explain why the tab appears to have a transparency setting which is different from the tab bar border, and how I might change the selected tab back to the same appearance as the tab bar border?

You may have a conflicting userstyle or add-on causing that. In all 3 of my styles, the active tab and bottom tab bar border match in color. Wait... in your screenshot it looks like neither AeroBuddy nor Windows Aero is enabled. Looks like a Persona is there as well. Personas do not work with AeroBuddy, either.

Your background makes it look like you're not. :p My styles are not tested on AeroBuddy 1.04 or higher. Again, If you're using Firefox 3.6 I recommend 1.03 as the newer versions are designed more for 3.7alphapre.
