I think u have updated your IE6 to SP1 isn't it?

Well if that's the case, u've got to do some registry adjustment...

I think it's in the thread somewhere..look for it...

yay!

at last someone else who cannot get into windows update.

I've done a reformatt/install of XP and it is still the same.

It's been like this for me all week.

Does it come up with a problem viewing web page type message with the yellow triangle at the status bar?

You may have the same probs as me.

using RC-2 + no service packs (no winupdate , no SP)

Well I thought so...

Anyway, the work around yur problem is to go to Start, Run, Regedit

Then in regedit, go to HKEYLOCALMACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/INTERNET EXPLORER/HELP_MENU_URLS

Replace the IP address that u see to http://windowsupdate.com/

Similarly do the same for HKEYLOCALMACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/INTERNET EXPLORER/JTIInfo/6/Download Site URL/

Change that to http://windowsupdate.com/

Change these two values and see what happens..let me know if u will.

Good Luck!!:D

U see, the thing with SP 1 is that when u update IE6, it changed the URL of the default page of Windows Update to that IP address which is somewhere in Microsoft TechNet if I'm not mistaken...well, for now all i know is this problem..with IE6 SP1 though I'm unclear if there are or will be any other 'mishaps':p in the future..?
