markwolfe Veteran Posted January 29, 2010 Veteran Share Posted January 29, 2010 Search will not return results when I search for a term such as "windows" if I have it look in the past day. Also won't return if searching the past two days. Not even if I go back the third day. It does, however, return results if I go back a fourth. I guess one could say it is broken? SuperJediMedia
I hate this new search! How do I search just titles now?
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 1, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted February 1, 2010 It is just me, but it seems to be broken WORSE now. :( Looked for any post I made in the past 4 days. No results, what-so-ever.
houlty
yeah, search seems to be busted for me too... to find my posts i just use the "view my posts" selection in my dropdown user menu. thats does seem to work.
Steven P. Administrators Posted February 2, 2010 Administrators Share Posted February 2, 2010 Clicking on My Posts in the dropdown menu works fine for me, or do you mean searching from elsewhere?
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 3, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted February 3, 2010 "View my posts" isn't on the dropdown from the front page. The results show duplicate threads, if there are multiple posts, so a few active threads will fill up the first pages quickly. Plus, I was talking about the search with the options I described of date selection and topic selection. Like if I was searching for posts on "Linux". Or "Windows". They don't show up in the search page. https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search (that's the one available in the user dropdown box on all Neowin pages, called Forum Search)
Leo Natan
Search engine is utterly useless... I search for this thread: https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/871606-first-fermi-gf100-chips-named-gtx-480-and-gtx-470/ I type "Fermi 480" in the search box. Ooops... I try just "Fermi". Nope... I try "480". ... Bear in mind this is the most recent thread that has these words in its title. As it is right now, I have not seen a forum with worse searching facilities. Perhaps it was made such on purpose to artificially decrease server load? :pinch:
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 3, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted February 3, 2010 I seriously doubt it is deliberate. :p Searching for a term that is used probably every few minutes, such as "windows", shows that it probably works up to Jan 26 or 27th. It has just broken down. Not sure that staff even seems to be aware of this, judging by Neobond's inquiry regarding only "view my posts", which was brought up only in the post right before his. Hopefully the staff knows about this and is working on it. Alas, it seems that search has a long and spotty history of problems. :(
Leo Natan
And you have to wonder why... Is it IPB's search? If not, then why just not use IPB's default one and be happy, rather than making it useless (unless intentionally)?
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 6, 2010 Author Veteran Share Posted February 6, 2010 Can any staffer at least confirm that this is a bug and will be worked on (when time permitting, I know there is a lot of work being done already). I just really don't want this to get overlooked.
