Vortex566
Was this ever in doubt? We all knew that the 360 was going to suffer in some manner due to the media restriction. I know a lot of people who hate anything after VI. VI was the high point in the series, it contained the best music, story and mechanics thus far in a FF game. This of course is a matter of opinion and not fact. I am replaying FFVIII on the PSP right now and I just can not enjoy it as much as VII. I think it might be the battle mechanics. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 16, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted February 16, 2010 FFXIII Slightly Worse on Xbox 360The final retail Xbox 360 code is in the door and comes off comparatively the poorer... Final retail code has just arrived in the building for the Xbox 'cut' of Final Fantasy XIII. Having just finished the game in just under sixty hours on PS3 puts us in prime position to note the differences in visual quality. To our purely subjective eyes, we have noted: ?Sacrifices have clearly been made? While facial detail appears largely unchanged, the characters' clothes appear at first glance to be lacking finer details, with notably lower resolution textures. Incidental environmental objects and enemies appear less detailed, both in texture and geometry. The game's CG is extremely compressed and pales alongside the stunning HD goodness which blu-ray offers. Knowing that this is likely to stir controversy, we'd like to make it clear that NowGamer is a multi-format publication, with no leanings either way toward a particular console. These are just the observations fo a few journalists who have experience the game on PS3. It would appear Square Enix has had to make some sacrifices to cram the game onto three discs after all, particularly when it comes to CG quality. Ultimately, no matter what you're playing it on and we would discourage anyone from deciding not to buy it if they're already planning to. However, if you have a choice, the PS3 version has the edge. AltecXP
I didn't get a 360 for better graphics, I got it for better games. and Blue-Ray is already a dying technology IMO. I can DL a 1080p movie is like 1hr at home.

furyshinobi
This comes as no surprise to be honest.... True, though I have read from the Gamespot preview that the 'main' graphics (excluding CG movies) are crisper? I'm still getting it on 360 since its the only console I can play it on (and I want that FFXIII faceplate :p) After getting over the initial shock of playing a Final Fantasy game on the Xbox 360, we found it was difficult to tell the two versions apart. Both look spectacular, with the game's engine creating stunning vistas. As we walked around the environments, we could pick out all the details on our characters' clothes and see their hair floating around in the wind. Battles looked fantastic, with vibrant lighting effects filling the screen during summons. We were constantly reminded that the summons were fully rendered in real time, as it was often difficult to tell whether it was the game engine at work or a full-motion video sequence. Also of note is the lip-syncing during cutscenes. Character animations have been reworked for the English voice acting, so speech lines up perfectly. However, we noticed at this stage that the movies on the Xbox 360 suffered from more compression than on the PlayStation 3, while the Xbox 360 had an overall crisper image quality in the main game. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 16, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted February 16, 2010 Gawd, what a bunch of lazy devs, porting crap to the 360. They didn't port, they did however use two separate graphics engines, and well the FMVs are just due to lack of space, not porting.
Hedon
They didn't port, they did however use two separate graphics engines, and well the FMVs are just due to lack of space, not porting. It was sarcasm :). It was in regards to when we used to hear peeps say that when the PS3 version didn't match up to the 360 version, it's because "all the devs were lazy" :)
Gotenks98
Personally I am getting it for ps3, because its one disc. In the past every multi disc game I ever had on xbox always had poor packaging and one of the dvds always got loose in the case causing it to get scratched. If they were better with the packaging I would probably get it on 360 instead.
NeoTrunks
I would be getting it for the PS3 because that's pretty much all I play now. Plus, there's just a nice continuity to it. I have every other Final Fantasy game that I can play in some form on my PS3 (except for FF3). Would just be odd to have the last one all of a sudden on the 360. what
If I end up getting the 360 version, I won't be playing the PS3 version, so I won't notice the differences anyway. Unless Sony wants to give me a PS3, I'm sure the cutbacks can be overlooked. And that is a personal opinion :p srs? Someone's post on a message board represented their opinion? That's unheard of! George P Global Moderator Posted February 16, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted February 16, 2010 So the Gamespot post says the difference in-game is very minor, as I expected really since both games are native 720p and so the textures for the most part will match, they could be a tad bit more compressed on the 360 version which is where the little differences show up. As for the FMVs, we all knew about that, but in the end it just comes down to each person, most people won't notice if they're not actually looking for differences between upscaled and native. It's like audiophiles who say 320kbps MP3s sound like crap compared to FLAC, though I personally can't tell the difference. Maybe I just need some $500 headphones though. I'm sure we'll get side-by-side screencaps in the next few days though, that is another given. scratch42069
This isn't a big deal for me since Final Fantasy was all about the story and the cut scenes were a nice extra. I'd imagine die hard Final Fantasy fans who played the original 6 games will not be bothered if the 360 version is slightly poorer in the graphics department than the PS3 version. Uhh there's 10 hours of cutscenes, die hards is usually referred to the group of obsessed fans who'll want the best quality/quantity in everything regards to the game (special editions/pre-ordering/then things like this). The larger audience won't care as much, but if you're a multiplatform owner makes the choice much easier for some.
