Final Fantasy XIII Xbox 360 Graphics

Recommended Posts

I see absolutely nothing wrong with these images. What's the issue again?

That's the thing though, it doesn't actually show in those images. Those look better and closer to the PS3 version imo. The first batch posted at the start showed more difference when it came to the hair textures.

But in the end this is just, what's called on the net, epeen boasting. Like others have said, both look good, and when it comes down to it, visuals alone can't make a game great.

LOL true I forgot people actually care about the size of their epeen

But seriously, neither batch came from a trusted source, so I'm surprised either held any weight at all.

I got stuck where you have to protect the Queen's (the Queen who joined your party... can't remember her name :p) city from five monsters within a certain time limit. If I remember correctly, you have to make rings in order to kill them.

@QuietStorm21A : Thanks for the guide :) I did try to use it but it didn't help me at all :p

I remember that part, just have your 2 big physical attackers in the front row, Kaim and Seth, then put 3 mages in the back and use them to keep spamming the magic attacks the monster is weak aggest. You have to check their info to see what works for what. Then it's just a matter of being quick enough.

So, occasionally fine, sometimes grim: a statement that effectively sums up how much of Final Fantasy XIII looks on Xbox 360 when compared to the PlayStation 3 game, meaning that if you own both consoles, there really is only one choice when it comes to the purchasing decision.

But bearing in mind that Oli Welsh's Eurogamer review is based on the superior PS3 build, commentary for those who only own an Xbox 360 is probably worthwhile. In this respect, Final Fantasy XIII is clearly still a worthwhile experience, despite the resolution drop and the frequently awful cut-scene quality. In terms of basic content, story, and core functionality, it's all there.

Despite the cutbacks, the in-game graphics are still attractive, the gameplay is fundamentally the same as the PS3 version and it's clearly a cut-above much of the other JPRG fare available on the console. That being the case, despite falling short in direct comparison with its PS3 sibling it's still a decent game, though I daresay that the retooling of the formula into a more linear experience with obvious cutbacks in the exploration element is likely to frustrate many of the core fanbase.

from the same article, although the 360 is the inferior version in some aspects, the console seemed to perform better in terms of frame rate overall

To illustrate the improvements Xbox 360 brings to the table such as they are, here's a selection of clips put through frame-rate analysis. You'll see that while both versions can drop frames, it is the Xbox 360 version that is undoubtedly smoother on average. Minimum frame-rate is 26FPS on 360, and 20FPS on PS3. It's interesting to note that the character close-ups are seemingly no problem for the 360: 30FPS is maintained while PS3 struggles.

No wonder it's running at sub-HD resolutions.

As long as neither dip frequently it won't be all that noticeable in an RPG.

The real noticible parts are the FMVs as we all expected, the minor details in the gameplay itself is at the point of nitpicking it. Regardless, if Square wasn't so pre-rendered CGI happy they'd be able to do more and a better job imo. But that's a different subject for the most part.

I noticed that too. 360 was hitting 30fps while the PS3 was at 20fps. I would take fps over the res any day.

Dropping to 20fps for a split second during a close-up is not really much of a disadvantage when both versions showed almost identical framerates during the actual gameplay. If the framerate was actually dramitcally different during gameplay or during scenes where you would even notice that would be another matter. They are both 28-30 fps for the most part during actual gameplay with the PS3 having little drops to 24-26fps for brief moments during every cutscene they showed except that first closeup.

I agree. For me personally, I like a more solid frame rate vs. res. I planned on buying it for the 360 anyway because of my controller preference and my achievement whoring. I was already biased to which platform I was buying it on yes.gif

Looks like the PS3 is only getting its feet wet. Imagine a few years of this: publishers impair Xbox 360 version to "cram the game".

This is only the beginning.

Anyone got the 360 version to verify the issues?

There are no issues, just crappy resolution in-game and in-game cutscenes, and CGI is only 720p.

As I said earlier 40 minutes of CGI, around 9 hours of in-game cutscenes from what I've heard.

The in-game cutscenes are pre-rendered though which is why even although they're using the game engine, they take up space as video.

Not really. Not every game is CGI and cut scene happy like Square gets with FF. Majority of games still fit fine on one DVD, and it's only the really long ones, ME2 for example that need that 2nd DVD, very few go to 3 DVDs or more.
