Emn1ty
Looks like the PS3 is only getting its feet wet. Imagine a few years of this: publishers impair Xbox 360 version to "cram the game". This is only the beginning. I think this just signifies laziness and poor planning. Especially when it comes to Lost Planet 2 and Capcom. Honestly, if you can fit all of ME1 on a single disc, why is it so hard to fit other games into the same space? There are no issues, just crappy resolution in-game and in-game cutscenes, and CGI is only 720p. That isn't a crappy resolution. It is the standard. Sorry, but I still fail to see any "problems" with the way FFXIII looks on the 360.

If you have a 1080p TV, your 360 will upscale the CGI to 1080p as well.

That's fine for you, but the videos were encoded in 1080p AVC for the PS3, 720p bink for 360, not an issue, but 1080p > 720p. Did you not read the beginning of that quote? "No issues". SoapyHamHocks Member Posted March 8, 2010 Member Share Posted March 8, 2010 Anyone got a chance to play it yet? I'm wondering how the English dub is. Hopefully I don't have to wait for the "International" version.

mattmatik
Like I said, FF has become more about pretty cutscenes than actual gameplay. Now that Sony fans have lost their precious exclusive, they need to find any and all reasons to point out why the 360 shouldn't have the game. Seems to me Square wanted in on the 360 base but was either lazy or crappy planning on how to go about it.

I see absolutely no one doing that in here, only people moaning at Square for such a crap effort. FAIL! Yeah it is, only game I've seen do it is Valkyria Chronicles which included both Japanese and English.

George P Global Moderator Posted March 9, 2010 Global Moderator Share Posted March 9, 2010 People have to realise that unlike us, the very few, most gamers don't want the japanese audio track nor do they want to sit and read subs. If there was a great need for that then more games would do it or offer the japanese audio as DLC for free, yet they don't. So it's only logical to think that the demand isn't worth the effort to do. Plus that's just another thing to take away from disc space, be it DVD or even bluray.

If it was 320x240 then it would be crappy. 720p is anything but crappy. Read Emn1ty. I said the in-game resolution and in-game cutscenes were crappy, they are 576p, sub-HD. I just said "and CGI is only 720p". No where did I say CGI @ 720p is crappy, I said only, because it's 1080p on the PS3. There's only 40 minutes of CGI in the game, the other 8-9 hours of video are pre-rendered in-game cutscenes @ 576p.

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 9, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted March 9, 2010 I only quoted what the developer stated. So I guess the developer is wrong, not me. Video is native 720p. 360 - CGI is native 720p on 360 upscaled to 1080p, in-game cutscenes videos are 576p upscaled to 1080p. Gameplay is 576p upscaled to 1080p. PS3 - CGI is at native 1080p, in-game cutscenes videos are 720p upscaled to 1080p. Gameplay is 720p upscaled to 1080p. That's it simply summed up, there's two different types of video in FF13, pre-rendered cutscenes and CGI. There's around 9 hours of the cutscenes, and 40 minutes of the CGI IIRC. The CGI however is 100% 1080p native. The CGI is just video, it has nothing to do with the game engine, it's basically just an animated movie. It's 1080p AVC for the CGI. Nonetheless, Final Fantasy XIII will indeed support 1080p CGI cutscenes Source: http://www.gamezine....0p-$1291948.htm

+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted March 9, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted March 9, 2010 I will stick with the link that came from the producers of the game. You do that, but I'm right (the CGI is 1080p native) and the game also has DTS and Linear PCM 5.1 support, maybe shouldn't put all your hope in a PR Q&A if they can't even answer questions about their own game correctly. Staring at a DTS logo right on the back of my box, DTS is not Dolby Digital 5.1. Final Fantasy XIII runs in 720p and Dolby Digital 5.
Hedon
No, that's fine. I am sure that Final Fantasy Producer Yoshinori Kitase and Director Motomu Toriyama, along with the Battle Director Yuji Abe from Square Enix don't know their game. Not sure what I was thinking. We are not going to get anywhere in our differences on this subject, so we can end it there.

Draken
what a pointless discussion for such a BAD game. This topic have more views than the official, that sums up all this game have to offer, a dubious upper hand for Sony's console based only on it's storage media and preferred developer support (smiley free post, I'm being serious). Period.

Hedon
I noticed the DTS symbol but my z-5500's pick it up as DD. All of my Xbox 360 game cases say 1080p on them, but they pick up as 720p. It's PR/Marketing on the game cases. ;) Looks like I will have to pick up the PS3 version as well.
