Mafia II:

Mafia II?s play-space is the best open game city ever created, according to the title?s senior producer.

?No other open world city comes close with the texture quality, attention to detail and destructibility of our environments,? claimed Denby Grace, speaking to Incgamers.

The developer added: ?As well as the story, the level of detail and realization of the world really is an amazing technical achievement for the team here at 2K Czech.?

The game is slated for a release between the beginning of May and the end of July this year, in Take-Two?s third quarter.

Not a giant amount?s known of the game so far, but it did get a video and shots from gamescom last year.

Truly want to believe this after how excellent the first game was, but we'll see :)

After GTA4, this claim seems slightly difficult to imagine.

The original Mafia is still a better game than GTA4, and yes I like GTA4 before anyone saying anything.

Think he was talking about in terms of the world as the article mentions, not the game itself?

Would love to see what they've done. Only thing I hate about the GTA worlds (III and up) is the way vehicles and people can disappear suddenly when you go to look/turn back. Kind of annoying, especially when you see... say a car you might want.

I'd like to see what they've done with the game, especially considering how Rockstar set the bar with GTA IV.

I'll certainly give them a benefit of the doubt but GTA IV certainly managed to create the image of a living, breathing city and from the Mafia II

footage I've seen so far, nothing really supports their claim yet - Only time will tell aye.

I can imagine it pretty easy. Especially when the first Mafia was released after GTA 3 only three months later (for the PC), and was light years ahead of it in term of details.

GTA 3 (released in may 2002):

Mafia (released in august 2002):

hmm... watching those videos, what really sets the 2 games apart is Mafia's art style, compared to the cookie cutter vanilla plain graphics that GTA3 had

i cant wait to see what they can come up with , with current gen graphics....

Wow, I remember Mafia. Fantastic game aside from the slow travel.

I think it came on like 4-5 disks!

The 'slow travel' as you put it was all part of the atomsphere. I loved every second of Mafia.

That's exactly what I meant. Some people can't seem to help themselves from jumping in and show off how sophisticated their tastes are. Big yawn. sleeping.gif

That's precisely what my thoughts are on the GTA IV world. It was the first city that actually felt alive. Not simply a psuedo, bland and dead world with mindless zombies walking around.

But nothing from their media that have been released so far shows anything about Mafia II being close to GTA IV. I still stand by my words: Can't imagine them coming up with a city that's living and breathing like it. I loved Mafia, and I can't wait to play it. But I think GTA IV really set the bar up high. I wouldn't want to get my expectations up.

End of thread. GTA IV was just a long borefest with amazing visuals and realism. Mafia was refreshing and its cinematic gameplay and its immersion factor for its time was astounding. The only problem with Mafia 1 was that the driving tended to get a bit too tedious and boring at times. However, I loved the feel of the cars since it felt like they matched exactly with what cars would perform in those times.

Then start imagining it .

Back in the Day Mafia 1 was way better than GTA 3 in terms of texture , GFX , story etc. Im expecting Mafia 2 to only improve :)

Well call me boring, because I wasted hours playing GTA4, and still do on occasion.

Same here, I thought the game was nothing but a shining gem and loved the more 'mature' approach to gameplay, which is also the reason why

Mafia holds a special place in my heart - None of this explosions everywhere, tanks, jet planes crap that makes the 5 year old kids jump in excitement.
