Rumor: PSPgo

Recommended Posts

We wanted to like the PSPgo! Really! It’s light, feels nice in our wearied Writing Palms, and is cute as a button. But looks aren’t everything, and Sony seems to have learned that the hard way. So, what’s a platform behemoth to do?

Well, if at first you don’t succeed, try and try again, right?

According to a report from Gamervision, Sony’s gearing up for a PSPgo “relaunch.” What’s that entail? Apparently, a “marketing blitz,” which – Gamervision speculates – might include a price drop.

At least, we hope so. Otherwise, Sony’s equivalent of a “pretty please with sugar on top” probably won’t sway too many people into the Go’s camp.

Let's hope so, as the PSP Go needs a price drop from the stupidly priced $250.

My boss recently picked up a brand new one. This kid got it for christmas, used it twice and traded it in. The thing is, this thing is SUCH a joke, he got $60 instead of half. Because of it being digital only and a load of bull****, trade in value is **** to, as it should be. The turn around for a DSi was better($130).

But, he picked it up and while he likes the fact its portable and slip, its not that much focused into gaming then it is being portable media player. He only picked it up because he got it for like $10 haha.

I dont blame him, I would of. Honestly it needs a price drop and a better "marketplace" behind it to become big.

The actual system itself is nice. Being able to hook up a PS3 controller and plug into a TV is good too. The only letdown is the prohibitive price and lack of games available.

It doesn't even need to be hacked IMO, they just need to implement a Good Will UMD program. If I could play my current library on the PSP Go, coupled with a price drop, I'd probably pick one up in all honesty. I love the idea, I just hate the idea of not being able to play my current library. I don't buy too many PSP games so the chances of me buying a ton more to make my PSP Go relevant without my old library is unlikely.

Best thing they can do, cut the price by a decent margin and let it co-exist with the other PSPs. I really enjoy the idea of having all my games on my hand held with no media, but not at the price it currently costs.

And with minis now working on the PS3 and PSP it offers good value to me as a PS3 owner.

I would just let it continue to die off and sweep it under the rug as a marketing snafu.

Nah it's an interesting project to see if they can stir up some interest in digital only gaming, with a reboot and better price.

Seeing as everyone is always going on about how digital is the near future, handheld seems the logical place to start but so far it's flopped, but mainly due to two reasons

a) PSPGo price

b) PSP is hacked so you get your free games on the old models

I am a huge, if not the biggest advocate, promoter of all digital gaming platforms. I think if the PSPGo was released at $100 cheaper with a LARGE library of games, it would have taken off.

Problem is with the risk Sony bumped the price up as not to lose money on the hardware, so in a sense it was a sensible business move, but a poor consumer move.

Still it's an ongoing project to tweak around with and see what they can salvage.

Yup, I agree. Many thought the $600 PS3 was doomed, and it has fared well. I hope the PSPGo can make a comeback, but I am just not so sure. Here is to hoping! (the more gaming options, the better).

Honestly if it was much cheaper <$150 i might buy one however, the thing is just shy of the cost of a PS3 so why would you pay that much for it. i like the concept of no moving disc, Except the downloads are insanity slow. Just the price mark is stupid on these things.

this idea makes the most sense to me, i always wonder why would sony leave out their current userbase with their new model...

unless , of course, they are aiming for a new userbase, and being more expensive than the piece of kit your existing userbase already has isnt going to help...
