Problems with a Logitech QuickCam Express

Recommended Posts

I was wonderin if anyone else was having a problem with there Logitech QuickCam Express and XP, i have tried nearly everything, new drivers etc but it still continues to lockup on me or crash any application that is using it. It was working fine in 2000 but then i upgraded to XP.

Any Ideas?

  • 4 weeks later...

No problems with the cam under any windows os here, i have used it with 98SE/ME/2K/XP, it ran flawlessly, and XP's driver is gives alot better quality and framerate than the driver for 98SE.

For all of you out there trying to use a webcam with a motherboard using the VIA chipset combined with an AMD CPU...

Buy a USB PCI card with Lucent chipset and all your webcam freezing/imaging problems are solved!!

Cookie monster was right about the addon card. And Logitech recommends Lucent.

I'm beginning to learn VIA sucks.... :disappoin

well i think it's their PSU (Power supplies) or just the amount of power that the BIOS supplies to their mobo. I went AMD and VIA combo a longtime ago and wont go back to anything else. I had the VIA KT133A chipset and it used to work fine and then gave me some trouble. I'm in XP and whenever i clicked the icon in MY Computer the window it was in would lock up. It started happening (i guess) after i updated my BIOS but before i changed it, everythhing was all good (almost 100% sure it was after) I now use A VIA KT266A chipset board (8233 Southbridge) and it runs pefect... i think it's either the BIOS or your mobo's implementation of the VIA 686B southbridge! You'll prolly have to tweak like hell in your BIOS and take out some cards cuz one of them could be hoggin too much power from your PSU! The one other culprit could be if you have a SB Live card... I do and refused to sell it and get anything else but everything is good now. I think that was part of the problem (the combination of a SB Live and the VIA 686B chipset) - check www.viahardware.com for a patch but it's NOT guaranteed to work!

oh and let me add that adding the VIA 4 in 1's never solved anything for me.. and since he's on XP then i wouldn't suggest using them cuz they do nothing but cause possible headaches (extra drivers can conflict) IF XP has the driver for it then don't bother add extra ones (unless it's for the video card where XP doesn't come with good 3D support.. MS drivers packed with the OS is only designed for 2D support but might play some games as well! :)
