PS3 Mass Effect 2 - EA offers 'no comment'

Recommended Posts

If EA is planning to release a PS3 version of Mass Effect 2, it's keeping schtum.

CVG checked in with the publisher this afternoon to ask if it was keen on releasing a PS3 version of the game, and all we got was a short, sharp: "No comment on that one." Delivered in a polite manner, we may add.

<br clear="all"> The comment comes after Polish site Kikoo claimed that there is some source code of the PC version of the game that suggests a PS3 iteration has been created.

According to the site, the source code read:

[sFXGame.BioSFHandler_CharacterR? Ecord2]

m_nMaxRenegade=1900 m_nMaxRenegade = 1900

m_nMaxParagon=1957 m_nMaxParagon = 1957

m_srXPFormat=340881 m_srXPFormat = 340,881

m_srSpendTalentPointsMessageXBox?=348754 m_srSpendTalentPointsMessageXBox? = 348,754

m_srParagonRenegadeMessageXBox=3?48755 m_srParagonRenegadeMessageXBox = 3? 48,755

m_srSpendTalentPointsMessagePC=3?48753 m_srSpendTalentPointsMessagePC = 3? 48,753

m_srParagonRenegadeMessagePC=348?755 m_srParagonRenegadeMessagePC = 348? 755

m_srSpendTalentPointsMessagePS3=?348755 m_srSpendTalentPointsMessagePS3 =? 348,755

m_srParagonRenegadeMessagePS3=15?3007 m_srParagonRenegadeMessagePS3 = 15? 3007

You want to be looking at the last two lines there, folks.

For those who still haven't bought it (fools!), read our Mass Effect 2 review here.

Xbox World 360 seems to agree: Its Mass Effect 2 review gives a similarly storming score.

So the PS3 version's not officially alive, but it's not officially dead. Doesn't do anything for the anxiety, hey PS3 fans?

Good to see. I really want ME2 bad, but my 360 doesn't get much playing at all. Seeing as a good deal of the actions in ME would carry over into ME2, they would probably have to release first. Again.. I think both on one Blu-ray would be great :p

I wouldn't be surprised in the least. Microsoft only published ME1, not ME2.

Note that ME1 was on Xbox and PC, and the box art stated "Xbox Only". "Xbox Only" is not on the ME2 box. Not to mention, MS has never claimed it was exclusive either. I think it's quite obvious the PS3 will get ME love sooner or later.

They can't really release the first one on the PS3. not unless MS agrees or they pay them off big them.

As for Bioshock... that was a very very very slow "bam"

If 2 were ever to make its way to the ps3, wouldn't they need to substitute something in for the missing storyline from the first? It's highly doubtful ms would be releasing the 1st. So why jump into the 2nd without experiencing the first? For the story's sake of course. Story being main focal point to an rpg, no??

I assume it's not like reading a book when it comes to a game of this sort. Where decisions made plays an important part in ones' course of action throughout the story. Not to mention, when decisions/actions previously made is carried over towards the 2nd part.

I haven't played either. Just going by what I've read from folks here. So please feel free to correct on any assumptions I've made.

As much as I'd love to play the 2nd, ?I don't think it would deliver that awesome experience everyone's getting from it on the 360. I'd most likely end up passing up on it.

Mass Effect 2 does have the ability to let you manually make decisions from the first game if you start a new game without a previously saved game from ME1. So in that regard, PS3 players will still get to affect their storyline similar to playing the ME1, but they'll miss a lot of the backstory and character devolopment that makes the ME games so fantastic.

So they won't be totally out of the loop, but IMO you'd need to play the first one.

Major Nelson from www.majornelson.com had a podcast last week with an interview with two people from BioWare. They said that the Mass Effect 2 beginning well help give you an overview of the first one. They said they did this to appeal to those who missed the first game. Of course, that could be just marketing/sales jargon from them too.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mass Effect 2 is released on the PS3. After all, it wasn't published by Microsoft this time around.

Unless they'd release both, I would probably pass on this one, I'm afraid.. I would want the full experience of playing all parts of the trilogy or skip it completely.

With the ability to use previous saves, story, etc from ME1... Not worth it to buy on PS3.

PS3 only owners disagree...

In fact I've played 2 on the PC, and 1 on the 360, and playing it on the PC is far superior to consoles anyway, I couldn't of cared about losing my save.

But you still played the first non-the-less. It's not just a question of a mere save file carrying over, but a whole experience. As a ps3 owner, I think it's perfectly fine for one to feel the need to pass up the 2nd for lack of exposure to the first.

Yep, it is superior on PC. Never buy a Bioware or Obsidian game for a console or basically any game that comes with a toolkit for the PC version.

But, a lot of people with only a PS3 probably never even played ME1.

Well so far, I don't see what the big deal is. Seems like an online version of say, Fable 2 combined with Blue Dragon slash RPG, with medicore graphics. $180 a year PLUS you have to buy the game? Not seeing the value in that yet in my first bits with the game.

Back to Mass Effect 2 people.... lol

Want it even if the 1st wasnt an option....ever?

Imagine MS taking complete control of the 3rd installment leaving ps3 completely half assed.

I think the only people that know if it's coming to PS3 or not is Sony, EA, Bioware and MS. It's all speculation right now. But the proof seems to be growing.

I'd be happy to see a PS3 edition of Mass Effect 2.

I wouldn't be happy to see one with extra content only for the PS3 version.

I think you guys are missing the bigger picture. If ME2 comes to PS3, 360 fans can no longer thwart their "superiority" with having ME2 as an exclusive (even if most of their "exclusives" are also on the PC...). :unsure:

Isn't the PS3 supposed to have no games? :laugh:

Bioware/EA owns the Mass Effect IP. They wouldn't have to pay them anything, just self-publish.

Anyone else remember when Mass Effect 2 was "shown" on the Russian Sony website? or Russian Playstation website, same thing to me :p

Never given up hope since then.

Maybe they'll release Mass Effect 1 with the same [updated] version of Unreal Engine 3 in Mass Effect 2. It's a long-shot, but hey... they released Oblivion on the PS3 at a later date with slightly improved visuals.
