RaQ
In your opinion, If you had an HDTV capable TV which would you choose the XBOX or the PS2? I myself have a rear projection 65" and a PS2, while our friends have a front projection 150" and a XBOX. I went home and googled because it intrigued me to find that it looked better on there "front" projection over our "rear" projection. There was also options like, "Do you have a TV that supports.. 480p/720p/1080i". The PS2 does not mention any of that. With the PS2, I can achieve progressive scan I learned but only by games programmed specfically with progressive "support". But to do this, I must have monster cables and very few games really support the progressive mode. Why is this? From what I hear, it's because unlike the XBOX which has a game out "Dragion Lair 3D" 1080i it has hardware support while as the PS2 must hardcode progressive support into the games which is alot more difficult. So far, they've only done 480p while the xbox has 1080i and more games to be released. I would give anything myself, to play MotoGP3 or Midnight Club II: Street Racing in 1080i or at least 720p (quality of progressive scan DVD.. sorry, mistake it's actually 768p). So what would you choose? PS2 or XBOX. Keep in mind, XBOX has hardware support but you have to buy the HD A/V Pack and the PS2 has software support.. as with the XBOX, you have to buy standard or monster component video cables. Looking foward to reading your responses! ;)
John Veteran Posted June 22, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 22, 2003 i would choose xbox, since it's geared towards HDTV sets. hardware is better than software when it comes to performance (Y)
Acezo
Xbox, since it natively supports HDTV. I just wish there would be more HDTV games, hell even true Widescreen or 480p games would settle me. Most of my titles don't support any special HDTV features :/
kryptonik
Get PlayStation 2. X-Box is useless.... But you're rich, so get both. ;)
Briandl79
A ton of Xbox games support 480p, less than a dozen support 720p, and only a couple support 1080i. There are also a ton of games that support 16:9, not as many as 480p, but quite a bit more than 720p. You can find a list of PS2 games here and Xbox games here. You'll notice the PS2 list is quite short, while the Xbox list is quite long.
RaQ
I have PS2. One question.. I set say "Gran Tourismo 3" to "16:9" Screen mode. How come there are no damn black bars at all and the picture at least to me (only in NFSHP2 did it i think) look diffrent at all, and in NFSHP2 it was only at the menus it was all weird. I swear to you, everyone says my 16:9 Sony Diamond Series 65" shouldn't have black bars with progressive scan DVD but it does. if i want ot get rid of them i have to press the zoom in button. they told my dad if he got all that there would never be black bars. theh0g
Also depends which games you prefer, I had both and PS2 kicks xbox's ass, but that's just my opinion :)

The PS2 outputs a fullscreen with the 16:9 aspect ratio. So only if you truely have a widescreen TV will it look right. ;)
DigitalDiablo
it all comes down to the games. Graphics are nice, but which is coming out with more games you want.

LUTZIFER
Get PlayStation 2. X-Box is useless....But you're rich, so get both. ;) XBOX is useless? Now thats funny. Why is it useles? Too much power compared to PS2 for you, you don't like having awsome graphics, you'd rather use memory cards instead of a hard drive, you only like playing with 1 friend instead of being able to have 4 players??? Compare the specs and the facts, XBOX outperforms everything by a long shot. Doesn't take a genious to understand that. About the only thing PS2 has over XBOX, is that it can play all those crappy PS1 games, which are very crappy at that, but that ads to the game count available. I gave my PS1 and games away cuz even my kids thought they sucked, and we had about 40 games. XBOX has way more than enough games as of now, so I couldn't care less how many more Playstation has than XBOX.

Roger H. Veteran Posted June 23, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 23, 2003 xbox def rules.. :D I know games matter and all that but we're not talking about games now... Xbox hardware rox compared to PS2. Don't tell me you have a GF FX 5900 Ultra even tho "there aren't any games for it" then why byou have it then? :D hehe.. took a picture with my new CommuniCam that just arrived :D
kryptonik
X-Box is useless. If I wanted a system that can play media, dvd, and run an ftp, I would just get a 400 USD computer for that price. The only game that is worth buying on the X-Box is Halo, Halo II, and Brute Force. All other games are either on a different console or also for the PC. :/

Too much power, but no good games where I can actually enjoy that power. 1 Friend? I can play up to four players on my GC with games that are actually entertaining. Sure X-Box has way more than enough games, but which games are actually made by Microsoft, and which games are only for the X-Box? I'd say about a handful and 3/4 of those games suck. :/ I don't see X-Box having Final Fantasy series, Dynasty Warriors series, Dance Dance Revolution. For everything else, I use my GC or my handheld GameBoy.
perochan
you dont buy xbox or ps2 just because you have money, you buy it because you want the games that console has. The Xbox is geared towards the HDTV system and thus it has the better HDTV support, it can go as high as 1080i, where as the PS2 and GC(i believe?) are restricted to 420p. The Xbox over here costs ?129, there is no way that you would be able to purchase a system that could play a huge array of media formats (including: divx, xvid, ogg, dvd etc..), ftp and linux as efficently as the Xbox can.
