JHAres
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but part of having a sense of humor is being able to laugh at ourselves. So, we must conclude you are handicapped or retarded...??? :shifty: That joke is not about healthy people, is about people sadly less gifted... grow up mate...

rezza Veteran Posted June 22, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 22, 2003 Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but part of having a sense of humor is being able to laugh at ourselves. Just because handicapped people might be a sensitive subject for you, don't go around threatening to beat someone up because they tell a joke about it. There are far too many jokes about sensitive subjects for everyone to get bent out of shape everytime and beat someone up. How about fat jokes? Don't you think fat people get mad about those? How about the age old Pollack jokes? I'm polish, maybe I should beat up every person that ever says another joke about my heritage. How about all the jokes we make about the French and Canadians? Don't you think that ****es them off? I know Americans get mad when they make fun of us. I get irritated about all the people that get all mad over stuff like this, because half the time they just do it to be different and get attention. If you don't like the joke fine, but I would expect a little bit more from someone who thinks they are superior to this form of humor than a comment like "I'd punch you in the face if you told that to me in person". Lets at least try and act like we're civilized around here. well said that man. give yourself a pat on the back for having the most sensible post in this thread. Wolvereen
Thanks Rezza for backing up my own thoughts. Thats just the point that I was going to make. I'd personally rather be friends with the type of person that told this joke, then the type of person that goes around hitting people in the face. I don't know if any of you live in the L.A. area and listen to Kevin & Bean on KROQ, but they made a good point. Every once in a while somone writes them and says something to the affect of "I have been listening to your show for 10 years, but no longer after you made a joke about X". It seems that when the joke is on other people, we are fine with it. Make a joke about OTHER races, that's funny. Make a joke about MY race, that's too far. Same with religion and sexes. I am not a blonde or a Mormon. I have seen jokes on here about both. People laugh because it is socially acceptable for them to. Why don't all of you get upset when a blonde joke is made? They can't help being blonde? They are born that way. Why is it that a theoretical person in the Special Olympics is off topic? Because they got handed a different set of abilities/disabilities in life, does that mean that they are perfect and no-one can say a thing about them? The instant someone makes a joke that might be considered"risque", then all the sudden you can't laugh b/c you are affraid of going against the PC tide. Just my 2 cents. PLUS, I warned you all that it was "A REALLY BAD JOKE". If you don't like "REALLY BAD JOKE'S", then why did you read it? Why did you comment? PLUS, I warned you all that it was "A REALLY BAD JOKE". If you don't like "REALLY BAD JOKE'S", then why did you read it? Why did you comment? Mate, just to clear the point... 1.) I think Rezza is being sarcastic... 2.) When you make a joke about a "blonde" for example, everyone knows is just a joke and not related to the reality, disabilities or handicapping (sp?). A joke about a handicapped person is at least cruel, because is real, at least partially... 3.) Is not a "A REALLY BAD JOKE" is a "A REALLY SAD JOKE"... 4.) Of course you are free to post more sad jokes like that, if is not violating the rules... BTW, I know what I'm talking about, I'm son of handicapped parents, both are deaf, happily my brothers, sisters and me are not deaf, because was not hereditary in this case, but I grew up hearing stupid jokes like that about deafs and other people with disabilities. Is not a happy moment when you are a kid and the people or other kids are making fun about your parents and you can't do something about that... As you said, just my 2 cents... ;)
fizik3
lol, i was next door neighbours for 12 yrs with a kid who had Down Syndrome, the kid was great me and him were pretty good friends but its just a fockin' joke buddy, i know the kid himself would have laughed, jeez. Elliott
You know, the mods at this thread are very strict and have very little appreciation for something that's just a joke! I mean seriously, you mods don't even back up your opinions. Threatening people or posting stupid pictures really is immature. He warned you that you might not like it. Look, I know handicapped people and they would laugh at this. It's just a live your life and have fun doing so thing. JHAres, I see your situation with the deaf family members. That makes more sense since they are deaf and can't do anything (even laugh unless they read it). But other people with mental disabilities and stuff would probably laugh at it (I know my friends with disabilities would).

Sure, maybe they can laugh, but, as people with mental disabilities, you are sure they can understand fully and deeply the extent of the joke and how they are involved...??? Besides my parents, I used to work helping people with deafness and other disabilities and I know their limitations.... sometimes they can laugh in public with a joke like that, but sometimes, later, they feel the sadly feeling they are "different"... BTW, my parents can laugh, they only can't hear.... they need read the lips at least... ;)

rezza Veteran Posted June 23, 2003 Veteran Share Posted June 23, 2003 (edited) jeez... there's no need to resort to personal insults. thats worse than any kind of attempt at humour, no matter how distasteful you find it. people think differently. people have different opinions. just because they think differently to you doesn't make you better than them, or give you the right to insult them. the fact that different people think differently about this sort of thing is just part of the diverse nature of humanity. learning to appreciate other people opinions, even when they contradict yours, can be a valuable tool. ivan2
this is a good joke but it is very bad in the moral sense. so most people will not DARE to laugh or will punch u in the face just to show their moral. tell it to your close friends who knows you it might have a better result.
