+Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 3, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted February 3, 2010 While Sony is warming to the idea of releasing more PS1 and PS2 games on the PlayStation Network, those hoping for more PS3 games being made available for download might want to find something more constructive to do. Asked by IGN whether Sony would be releasing more "full" PlayStation 3 titles (like Warhawk and Burnout Paradise) onto the PSN, PlayStation senior VP Peter Dille replied "No, I don't think so ? at least, not any time soon". Shame. Why, Peter? "Part of the reason for that is broadband", he elaborates. "We have an advantage with PlayStation 3 from an optical media perspective because a Blu-ray disc contains 50 gigs. Maybe this point will come at some time, but today to download 50 gigs of data before you play a game, you could probably go buy a car, bring it home, put your family into it, drive to the store by and bring the game home by the time you [could download it]." Man makes a fair point. That and most people own a PlayStation 3 for which 50GB (or even half that) would constitute the bulk of their free hard disk space. +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 3, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted February 3, 2010 Doesn't affect me. I always buy the blu-ray version if it is available. Mainly because digital distribution of titles in retail rape you, you get cheap deals in retail/second hand, lucky to get a sale on some of those titles on a digital store. PS1/PS2 games out of print, or selling for ridiculous amounts, PS3 games not out of print and either cheaper in retail, or very large to download with all the audio options and what not. Dance.
I prefer all digital libraries over the old fashioned disks and cover boxes. Might be true for music, but for BR games like these it's going to take an eternity to download them (The fastest internet in my country is at like 2 MBps and that still burns a hole in your pocket :(). But then again, to each his own :p.

Plus you get to resell it on :p I done that with AC2 to a NW member just a few weeks back. I assume though you have no problem with the £3-7 PSN games that could never be retail titles anyway though? It's not as if you could ever get a physical copy of Flower or PixelJunk Eden.
Hedon
I can't stand them myself, I hate not physically owning what I buy. Everyone is different I guess. I have an all digital music and movie library (and some blu-rays), and I am working on my all digital game library. Might be true for music, but for BR games like these it's going to take an eternity to download them (The fastest internet in my country is at like 2 MBps and that still burns a hole in your pocket :(). +Audioboxer Subscriber² Posted February 3, 2010 Author Subscriber² Share Posted February 3, 2010 I never sell mine. I always keep them. Usually I do to, but I was strapped for cash and needed money. It was in Neobay someone requesting a copy of the game, and I jumped on the request. Also, the UK's infrastructure is terrible, you only get high speeds like that if you live in the middle of a major city. Best I can get is 4mb. If I only had a 2mb connection, I wouldn't bother with downloading those big files either.
BoredBozirini
It has some logic behind it. Who in their right minds would like to download 50GB when they want to buy a game? Its faster to go to the store, buy it and drive back.
Pablo2008jedi
Well I got 50mb, now IF I got full download speeds (which I can't cause I am on g wireless) but if I connected via LAN cable it would take me about 2hrs 45mins :p Not that I want to, only got 40Gb Harddisk in my PS3 :p plus you can't trade-in a download :D

Its faster to go to the store, buy it and drive back. looks like its back to those early days of corporate email again... faster to print it out and walk to the guy you want to send it to, than to wait for it to finish transferring over the network suppose it takes you 1 hour to drive from your home to the store and back with a 50gb bluray game... and it takes 1 day for you to download the same game .... effectively it means that the bluray disc has 24 times more bandwidth than your internet
Rudy
Sadly the man has a very good point.....download speeds are getting better but we're still screwed with crappy caps (my internet has a 30GB cap and I pay and extra $12.50 to have another 30GB.....horrible horrible price :()

Good thing they have never charge me those $17. I usually use 60GB a month. One time I used 100GB and I got a letter saying they will charge me next time. It is ridiculous having a 30-40GB cap.
Hedon
We used to have caps about 5 years ago in the Wisconsin area. They dumped the caps due to competition now, which is awesome. We are now getting Fiber here as well in the Madison area, with 60mb download speeds.
SimplySchizo
Storage can be an issue for some as well. I still have a Launch System, so I have to constantly manage my content. mad_onion
What proportion of PS3 games are notably larger than their xbox 360 versions? Most of them or just a few? Because if it's most then I can see why they can't bothered to put them up when people are put off buying them cause they take ages to download. Also, it would be interesting to see how many people are downloading full retail titles on xbox live.
