+jamesyfx Subscriber² Posted February 15, 2010 Subscriber² Share Posted February 15, 2010 I agree. I always laugh more when I pull a prank on my friend and after a while his only response is something like "...****." xD
iamwhoiam
This is, in my opinion, the best reason to leave the swear filter enabled. As long as we're talking about the filter in general, what about the mods and admins not adhering to the same rules? Not trying to be a smart ass, but I can't get Neowin at work because a post by one of the admins had the word sh** it in and the site was blocked and since quite a lot of work places are strict about these things it does screw it up for some when those that run the place don't follow their own rules. This post by Neobond has since been edited by GreyWolfSC, but it was the post that got this site blocked at my work.
dead.cell
IMO you can say anything you need to say without swearing, and it's usually more amusing. For example, say "It really cheesed me off" instead of "It really ****ed me off". Making an annoyance into a laughing matter just doesn't sit right, especially when the situation at hand may very well not be humorous at all. I mean, if you said you were cheesed off, first thing I think of is that it's something minor that you really aren't upset over. Now, if you were PO'd (as we said in middle school), then I'd feel it's something more serious. Hell, my boss is a very clean mouth'd guy but... when I hear him say he's p----d about something, I know damn well he means business. (never at me thankfully :D) I dunno. I don't expect things to change here. I just find the swear filter a little backwards with the terms p--- and bas----.

We have to have the badword filter disabled for our groups as sometimes we need to post code or other messages in our private forums that would otherwise be blocked by the filter (it's not only swear words). This means we have to be more careful than regular users when posting on the forums, as we don't have the safety net, and we are human, and occasionally slip up. If you see something like that, just report it and it will be fixed.
