Aliens vs. Predator demo available on Steam now!

Another one of these lame Multiplayer demos that doesn't allow you to create your own closed server, just to test out controls and tweak graphics - You are forced to do that in a live environment which is effin' annoying. Not to mention, I downloaded it earlier and tried to join a server - Waited 6 minutes to join, nothing happened and I quit.

I like the fact that if you have your sound set any higher than 24 bit 14400 stereo sound on your pc.. it crashes to desktop without warning.

It's not a bad game..

It's pretty fun as an Alien.

Predator is DAMN hard.. never did human..

I hate the douche bags who don't observe within species truces.

But at least full game is supposed to have dedicated servers and server browser, so...

Pfft, demo should be a representation of the game. If they can't even be arsed to put dedis in to the demo. I'm not giving them my cash.

Lol

I always thought a Demo was what it was a demo, not the finished product.

Isn't demos meant to be uncompleted?

No. Demo's or Demonstrations are just that, Demonstrations of a product.

for past couple years, Beta / Demo has been one in the same

That's beta you're thinking about.

The ignorance is ridiculous. First of all they warn on the first game launch thats it is based on old preview code. Also there won't be matchmaking in the final game, there will be dedicated servers.

The demo matchmaking is not good, I agree, but the game itself is fun :)

Also the controls feel fine for me and not "consolized" (god I hate that dumb meaningless word)

Atmosphere seems to be spot-on but everything else is just underwhelming; sounds, effects and the action - It all just seem a bit bland.

Agreed. I actually think the sound effects are somewhat poor. Did you see the part in the video where the Alien gets a revenge kill? You hear, "You took revenge on the persecutor." It displays it in text form too, but here's the weird part. Above it, you see "You took revenge!" with the previous text below it. A bit redundant and lame, if you ask me.

I'm beginning to think this is a console-centric game ported to the PC with DX11 slapped on top. The graphics, though, aren't too shabby.

I wish I had read the steam client properly when it stated it was a multiplayer only demo. Would of saved on the precious bandwidth. :(

I dunno in my OP I said the demo was 1.2 gigs of MP goodness :| I thought I was fairly clear, guess not :( sowwy

They just updated the demo, they fixed the long wait times with the matchmaking and a few other issues (haven't seen patch notes yet).

Also, one of the Rebellion devs said this on the Rebellion site (this should ease some of your worries guys!):

We've identified an issue with the matchmaking system that is causing the very long wait times to get into a PC game, and hope to release an update shortly which addresses this.

(This was just patched/fixed in the update)

In the meantime players can ease connection issues by getting together with a group of players before entering matchmaking. Inviting friends or joining players via the Steam overlay will help work around the issue. If you need help finding players you can join one of the community groups, e.g. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AVPI

In addition to the matchmaking functionality the full game features dedicated servers, server browsers, and the ability to host games directly.

I turned down the brightness to about the second setting, and as an alien, it was pretty great.
