Medking
Hi there, So I've noticed that if I put my SD card into my Mac and import photos using iphoto, and then delete the photos from the SD Card, the photos are deleted and space is cleared up. But if I simply delete the photos in the finder, from the SD Card, the photos do not delete. As in, they get removed off the SD Card, but the space still reads as used in the G9. (ie the number of photos available to take remains the same as when the photos were on the card.) So I just formatted the SD Card using the Disk Utility, and it came out as unreadable by the camera. Next step was the format the SD Card using the programmed formatter inside the G9. Did that and the 8GB SD card came up with 7.4GB of space, or something like that. Is that normal? And if so, how can I avoid going through this entire process again? Because if I don't delete the photos immediately using iPhoto, and want to later do it using the Finder, it screws everything up. Thanks, Medking
Southern Patriot
When you formatted the card in Disk Utility, what format did you use? I'm guessing you probably formatted it as HFS+ (the Mac native format). The size you reported (when you formatted it with the camera) is about correct for an 8GB card. I can't explain why deleting the files from Finder didn't free up the space on the card though, unless your camera is somehow still seeing the deleted files. Medking
Hmm ok, thanks anyways, Well the formatting I used was actually FAT32 (Microsoft) Formatting, because I simply figured that it would be the default format for an SD Card. This is on my G9, and it is strange that the camera doesn't register the deletion of the files. Perhaps I'll try searching for hidden files in that folder the next time. If anyone else has any info it's appreciated.
Elliott
Easy: empty your trash after deleting the photos. Finder creates a trash bin on the SD card and the photos are getting held in there until you empty your trash. It has nothing to do with whatever format your SD card is in. Finder will always throw the photos into a hidden trash folder on the SD card and won't actually free up the space on the SD card until you empty your trash. FYI: It does the same thing for USB sticks as well.
