Ironman273
What Happens On Xbox LIVE When You Press A+A+A While at work, reader Mike got an email on his telephone from Xbox confirming his purchase of a LIVE Gold subscription. But Mike is an Xbox LIVE Silver Member. And he was out forty bucks. "I called home, and jokingly told my wife that she had some explaining to do," says Mike. "She didn't know what I was talking about, so I asked if there were any purchases she might have made that I should know about." Mike thought maybe she bought it for him as a surprise. His wife, however, had no idea what he was talking about. She did mention that their three year-old son had walked up to her with a powered-on Xbox controller asking her to play the "cars game" — Forza 3, that is. "So it seems that my son turned on the Xbox with the controller, tapped the A button 3 times, and spent forty bucks," says Mike. "This is completely understandable since he knows how to turn it on, and the green button is about the only one he ever pushes when pretending to play games." Microsoft, to its credit, was quick to offer a refund. And in order to avoid any future problems, Mike says he removed his credit card from his Xbox LIVE account. "But I think it's pretty stupid that it's this simple for a 3 year old to make such a large purchase," says Mike. "Why on earth does my Xbox default to that upgrade offer anyway?" Money, Mike, to make money. Source: Kotaku

spartyjohnson
Non-issue, dont leave your young child unsupervised. End of story. I will assume you have children and that they are supervised 24x7. Question: do they sleep in your bed with you or do you sleep in their bed? Unless you have an easier way to supervise them at night? Yes I know this wasn't at night, but my point is that kids do things in a matter of seconds. Case-in-point: shove 3 cd's in my wii. Took me days to get the right tool to take apart the wii to take out the cd's and put it all back together again. voidpharoh, DrCheese, Shadrack and 1 other 4 Share
mr.biomech
Meh... I guess the wife wanted some online-action, but after awhile realized she'd spent $39.99 and knowing what a cheapskate her husband is she rolled the blame on the toddler :p

spartyjohnson
I am responsible for everything my son does 24 x 7, not Microsoft. Day and night. We agree there. I dislike the parents that won't take responsibility for the actions of their children. I don't think that this article in any way indicates that this is Microsoft's fault. It just points out that anybody can press A+A+A to upgrade your subscription.

Sethos
Why is it that companies are held responsible for everything these days, are Microsoft supposed to babysit your kids from the minute they switch on the console? I'd say that's a big, fat no and parents need to watch their kids instead of babbling on the phone, laying on the couch or whatever they hell they do and not expect whatever electrical gadget they placed them in front of will care for their kids. Cupcakes
Isn't it obvious? It was far too easy for a credit card charge to take place. No, it's not really obvious. I wouldn't have made that mistake. Even so, if you let your child go on your Xbox, I don't see why he doesn't have a silver account with parental controls setup on it. That would have prevented said charge. So like I said. Kotaku posting crap for the sake of posting crap.

DrewJW
**** happens, as for the 24/7 amazing super parents where their child NEVER does anything wrong. I call troll. Seriously kids are kids you can watch them all you wish, they will always surprise you, if they have not yet, its down to two things 1. YET, that is the factor your missing 2. You ain't caught them yet.

Could also just give your kid a 360 account without the Credit Card information stored on it, so it's only the parents fault if this happens as there's plenty of ways to avoid it. Indeed. My son has a silver account as well. My side is password protected, and his account does not have any credit card associated with it. We just buy him point cards. Xilo
If it's that easy to make a purchase, then there's a problem. There should always be a confirmation box. At least on PSN, you have to go through several steps and even CONFIRM your purchases. A dog or cat could very easily trigger this as well.
