BoneyardBrew Member Posted June 4, 2010 Member Share Posted June 4, 2010 It looks like too much of the same to me. I really enjoyed Fallout 3, but I was expecting engine improvements or a new one altogether in a new game. As others have said: running on the exact same engine will just lead to the same issues being left unresolved in this game, just as they were in Fallout 3. No thanks, I think I'll pass on this one unless I can get it for dirt cheap.

I'm happy its the same, I loved Fallout 3, I spent well over 500 hours on the game on PS3, and I picked up on 360 as an excuse to play it again. They would have obviously done a little engine work to get new things to work, but I don't know what people were expecting, they didn't make the engine, they were given it with the purpose of making a full title and that they would have a good amount of time to create this new area. And I would assume the load that is taken off Bethesda as they don't have to make the next Fallout is probably being used on a newer engine for a new Elder Scrolls. My beef with the engine or games really (Oblivion, Fallout 3) is that it's a buggy POS! I mean, they'll drop a couple fixes in a patch or two, but nothing more than that. Other issues are seemingly overlooked despite how many people are crashing and whatnot. Hell, I think it's because of those games that I've become a bit like someone with OCD, saving and mashing the autosave button in fear the game will hang, crash, or just bug out. While I feel it's better to be safe than sorry, it's hard to believe it's come to this these days...

While I feel it's better to be safe than sorry, it's hard to believe it's come to this these days... exactly. I have just completed all the primary game and expansion content and ended up with just over 200 saves. For one character. It's very frustrating to have these crashes, especially for stupid stuff. For instance there was one section I kept trying to walk over a hill. Simple stuff, right? Crash. Every. Time. It took me a couple times to realize that I could avoid the crash by taking the long route around the hill to get where I was going. Bethesda IMHO really dropped the ball with support for their product. Yes, there was a couple of patches, but it certainly was nowhere near enough. alarson83
yeah, the engine can definitely be buggy. thankfully the console can fix most issues, and many that it can't can be fixed through regular saving. its this that makes me get it on the pc instead of using my 360 or ps3 though. Even with the bugs, the worlds for bethesda's games (logged a lot of hours on Fallout3, and recently got into oblivion- backwards, i know) are so immersive and addicting, i still get way more bang for my buck in hours of enjoyable gameplay than almost any other single-player-only game ive purchased. +virtorio MVC Posted June 6, 2010 MVC Share Posted June 6, 2010 Half the fun of Fallout 3 was it's totally messed up broken game mechanics. Can't wait for more.

And you know, quests being bugged out, NPCs disappearing or not triggering their proper scripts, etc. wouldn't bother me nearly as much, since it's usually the community that comes together to create "Unofficial" patches. All I'd like to see is a stable game at the very least, since it's not very easy for the community to fix these kinds of problems. We shouldn't need mods like this: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=22282 Though, I really wish someone made something like that for F3, given how well it worked for Oblivion... I truely echo this, it's only because the underlying game is so good that kept me playing it, if it was mediorce then i wouldn't have played it past the vault. I really did love the game and played through all of the DLC aswell. I am looking forward to the game but not to the bugs. I think the game engine just cannot handle the amount of middleware in it, the physics, the scripting, the tree's everything has been a plugin, i think this is why the engine cracks so easily when you apply some pressure to it. Lamp0
Cannot believe they're charging $60 for this game. Call me cheap but this is a $25 - 30 expansion pack. This seems to be the big fad now. Call everything an expansion because it looks the same... How many games get a new engine and overhauled art direction in a sequel within the same generation? Because other than that everything else is new.

I have to agree it does look outdated but the gameplay looks like it hasn't changed so at least it will still have that feel. :) I wonder how big the game is compared to Fallout 3. Richard Hammond
Cannot believe they're charging $60 for this game. Call me cheap but this is a $25 - 30 expansion pack. Its not an expansion pack its a full game based on fallout 3 universe, not only that the dev studio Obsidian has former staff from Black Isle Studios who worked on Fallout and Fallout 2 so if anything this should be a lot better and just as big as Fallout 3. I just hope they've improved the character animation when walking..that was dire

The_Decryptor Veteran Posted June 13, 2010 Veteran Share Posted June 13, 2010 It looks interesting, I want to pre-order it but knowing Bethesda they'll release 5 expansion packs, then re-package it as a "Game of the Year" edition for half the price (It's cheaper for me to buy F3 GOTY, rather than just buy the last 2 expansion packs for it) Obsidian's making the game, but Bethesda's selling it, so maybe it'll be different though. Nagisan
Looks good, not surprised the graphics are pretty much staying the same, but its an entirely different setting than FO3 which is great. I really do not like playing in dark locations in a game where you can barely see anything until its 2 feet in front of you. Something that likely will not happen often in New Vegas due to them still having power.
