Sikh
I couldnt think of a better topic title, but anyway, looks like the steams own team that manages it couldnt notice a common error. How I noticed this was on my phone earlier today I found the "steamupdates" apps that tells you all the updates that steam has announced and what they do, for fun i opened it because I never remember installing it. It pops up saying "Scheduled maintence" but the date said Feb 18. I thought ok, am i confused, are they letting us know ahead of time, whats the deal? Well, I get home, log onto steam, I cant. So I now know the maintenance was for today, whats even better is, the announcement on the site says the same thing, while the "Offical steam time" in the banner says todays date and time. Is it me, or did they miss something? Pics below: While its not a big deal steam is down, I thought someone like them would notice this. Only reason I bring it to peoples attention is to make sure im not the only one seeing this. I understand mistake happens so this is no way bashing steam, I was just making sure this isnt one of those weird my clock is set wrong things. Sikh
I mean I understand maintenance is required for something like steam, but they need to notify us earlier / fix there time and date ****. Only because I was like "ah the 18th steam maintenance, cool they told us early, wont wanna play l4d2, tf2, css or something that day. But of course its the "spur of the moment" notice for us but they probably knew about it for a few days now. Either way, I wish alittle head of the notice would be cool. Dont mind if they get the date wrong as long as there post has the right date.
Yusuf M. Veteran Posted February 5, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 5, 2010 I knew about the scheduled downtime from a gaming news site. So yeah, they should notify us earlier. I didn't check their site though so they could have warned us of it already. Thread Moved
LOC Veteran Posted February 5, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 5, 2010 They announced the downtime at least 2 days ago, which I feel is more than enough warning for most users. The Feb. 18th thing was obviously a typo/mistake on the part of the person who posted the news update that's all. Not only was it announced on almost every gaming site on the net, but Steam had one of those pop-up notification deals also to let everyone else know. (Well, unless you have those disabled lol)
Sikh
I actually have those enabled, and like i said, Ive seen the notifications on other sites, but I would like to see Steam say it. If you say there was a notification pop up from steam, i believe you, but i havent seen once since ive been with steam and this will be my third year i do believe. Hopefully its just me missing it or something, but its not like I didnt expect it, i just wish they would send out an hour or 2 "steam will be going down soon, this is a reminder. Thanks from Steam Support Team". Something of that sort.
LOC Veteran Posted February 5, 2010 Veteran Share Posted February 5, 2010 Actually it would have been nice if they did throw out a pop-up an hour or two before the downtime was to begin, I totally agree with you on that.

carmatic
wow so it's already febuary 18th on steam? gives new meaning to the term 'Valve time' , doesnt it?
Kirkburn
Agreed they should work better on the communication (though like others I got notified two or three days in advance via http://store.steampowered.com/news/3399/). However, these downtimes are pretty rare. I don't even remember the last time they had scheduled downtime - must have been at least several months ago? Edit: this is the most recent I could find - http://store.steampowered.com/news/2710/ - August 4th 2009.
