Dante's Inferno

Dante's Inferno is very loosely based on the first part of Dante's Divine Comedy. The player controls Dante, a veteran of the Third Crusade, who chases his beloved Beatrice and attempts to free her soul from Lucifer, who needs to wed a heaven-bound soul to break free of Hell and make another attempt to take over the Throne of God. As his pursuit takes him through the monstrous entities within the nine Circles of Hell to save Beatrice, Dante must face his own sins, his family's past and his war crimes.

I'm not making an official topic because the games seems to suck  (and I'm tired of making official topics for that kind of games), but anyway it's good to have some impressions so near to release.

I played the demo on Live and it seemed like a pretty good hack'n'slash - it looks good, plays well, and is fun. I'll probably pick it up, though I don't know about release day because Bioshock 2 also releases on the 9th.

Already got it yesterday in UK. I enjoyed the demo, and enjoy the full game, for me I think its fine, some people disagree. I thought visuals are great, fighting is fun, leveling up is also nice. Played about 2-3 hours already, the boss fights I had were hard for me, and died a few times.

All in all I am enjoying the game, I have no regrets buying it right now, so to each their own. I never played God of War games.

are the different circles of hell very different from each other? how do they interpret the original writings from the divine comedy...

yup, there's a level for each circle, and each circle adds a new distinct enemy to the game, I'm in lust right now ( that sounds funny) and the level is full of phallic and vagina-like objects.

All levels have a lot of climbing, and ... well, you're descending into hell no?

well at least this Dante is more faithful to the original than the one from Devil May Cry

watching through the developer diarys now... i kind of like how the guy they brought in to help designing their levels , says that he's surprised by what the guy they brought in for monster design has done

oh and one more thing...

the original poem had a part where there was something about the change in the direction of gravity or something as you went further along, since hell was supposed to be literally inside the earth , and back then they already had a good idea about the concept of gravity

anyway, is there anything like that in the game?

I would assume thats nearer the end of the game, being in the center of the earth, gravity would be from all directions. Will let you know when I get further, I am also in Lust right now, those women freaked me out lol.

see the way i would have interpreted it if i was designing the game, was like the gravity gets lower and lower as you go further into the game... maybe its just cuz i like it that way from playing unreal tournament and quake too much...

but yeah, decreasing gravity levels in a hack and slash would be so seriously kickass... if it was fun in a shooter game, imagine what it must be like when you rely on movement as much as you do in a hack and slash game...

So far only had 1 anti gravity puzzle, going through portals and coming out on the ceiling, and side walls etc. think I am on 4th or 5th circle, not really sure lol.

that's kinda like "Prey" then, isnt it? developed by Human Head studios, produced by 3drealms, used the doom 3 engine... could you also see through the portals as well?

Looking at the developer diaries and watching the animated movie that was released in conjunction with the game, I really dont think incorporating an explanation of gravity in hell was on their list. I was excited for this game, always enjoyed the poem and the animated movie was an interesting take on it and mirroring the game in more depth, but then my housemate beat it in <7hrs and for some reason I have no interest to play it now :\

Yeah maybe its on the short side, but I assume with the DLC coming out that will be designing your own levels/arenas that would put replayability to it. I am not sure I would replay it again after finishing, unless I want the rest of the trophies.

Will probably keep it until DLC in April to see if that adds more or not.

Got this from gamefly yesterday, played the first two levels up to Minos last night. Had played the demo, so I knew the gameplay going in, God of War (<3) clone n'at, which is fine. Plays really well, I like the level design so far, the one complaint I have is that it's a QTE every time you use a fountain (there are soul, mana, and health fountains). That's going to get old real quick.

I watched the animated movie they released yesterday. I think it was just all the cut scenes tied together but it looked awesome. I'll probably rent it :).

from the movie I watched, the cloth cross was sowed on his chest by demons. Each section of the cross represents one of his sins.
