Rockstar Games is known for its ambitious projects, and L.A. Noire proves that the companys reputation is safe. While the rumblings about the game have been heard for years, our world exclusive cover story is the only place youll be able to get concrete information on the gritty crime epic. Over the course of our 10-page feature we look at the games astonishing reconstruction of 1947 Los Angeles and learn how the team took on such a massive undertaking. We also talk to the team to see L.A. Noires groundbreaking facial-animation system in action, and learn how it might change the way we look at games from now on.

Some of the other features in our March issue include a look at the status of some of our favorite old franchises, previews of some of the Independent Games Festival nominees, and a guide for parents interested in parental controls. We also grill Platinum Games director Hideki Kamiya on Bayonetta, dig into the legal battle over Duke Nukem, and check out some of the hottest tech around. If youve been wondering why Polyphony Digital seems to operate without deadlines, Sonys head of internal development, Shuhei Yoshida, explains why the company cuts the Gran Turismo 5 developer so much slack.

Sequels to Mass Effect, BioShock, and Battlefield: Bad Company get reviewed in the March issue of Game Informer Magazine, along with Dantes Inferno, Aliens vs. Predator and many more.

Subscribers will be getting the March issue soon, and it will be hitting newsstands shortly afterward.

Well, that answers that, so Agent will be the exclusive mentioned in the tweets.

The key point is that it is coming to the 360 "eventually" which doesn't necessarily mean at the same time as the PS3. Either way I'll enjoy playing it because Rockstar always puts a ton of effort into their games.

Wtf? Wasn't there just a story a couple of weeks ago saying that the project was getting really no where and that Sony want's it soon?

Key word in my statement is "Sony". Anyways, I am glad we are getting more information on it, it looks interesting.

I could be wrong but I thought that story was that Sony sold it to Rockstar? Because of all the delays and money they were losing already. Either way, I am very, very happy to hear that it will be coming out on the 360 now. I know we could expect a longer wait for the 360 release but it would be best for Rockstar to get this release out as soon as possible.

Obviously, Sony wrote off the costs associated with the development of L.A. Noire.

5:30 PM Jan 22nd from web Sony and Take-Two came to agreement that the former wouldn't pursue the costs incurred for development in exchange for a franchise exclusive

5:13 PM Jan 22nd from web Strangely, McNamara quickly found hospice in his former rivals--the Houser brothers--and L.A. Noire was picked up by Rockstar in spring 2006

5:08 PM Jan 22nd from web After those few months, Sony dropped the game--a situation that threw the studio into disarray.

  • 3 weeks later...

i just read through the entire GI preview in my issue and it is just amazing the technology rockstar has at it's disposal, the way they talked its bringing true acting into video games where the avatar is doing the persons actual movements which is just short of breathtaking seeing the real person rendered as they speak and move and there facial details almost perfectly rendered.

I wonder if rockstar has this in mind for their work on the next gta or max payne games[which max was originally from remedy but bought out.]

I'm excited about the story as well since there touching on a genre of film that hasn't been able to be perfected since the 40's themselves and seeing the culture of back then compared to now is shocking seeing how today is skyscrapers and back then was simple structures and streets.

Rockstar always has me excited because there titles are never a letdown [unless you want to bring up the getaway]

R* didn't make The Getaway, that was Sony's Team SoHo (ironically, run by the guy who now runs Team Bondi, the actual devs of LA Noire).

Ok, so their "ground-breaking facial animation system", is it going to be like Half-Life 2's, or like Fallout 3 where all they do is move their head around, move their eyes around and open their mouth every so often?

From the article it is more advanced than anything we have ever seen and their closest comparison is Mass Effect 2. The whole point of the game is to actually pay attention to facial features that would imply someone is telling the truth or lying and making judgment calls with which to push the conversation as far as possible and revel clues to solve the stories.

You definitely need to read the article.
