ElectricDemon
Hi there people, for two weeks I've had my ad-hoc connection running fine between my PC, and laptop. But now I've bought my ADSL router, ready for when i get broadband set up next month. Anyway, the problem is that my PC, and Laptop cannot ping the router, or see it's existence when I've powered on/booted up the router. on the 'View available wireless networks' page, i can see the router's SSID (set to WLAN for now, will change when I get the connection sorted), but no matter what i try, both my computers refuse to connect to it. I've hooked up the router to my PC using the LAN cable provided to set up the configuration, it works fine through that, but the wireless side is causing major headaches with all the problems it is causing. I've set up WEP, using different Keys and passphrases, 64bit, and 128bit, and entered the keys on the computers, but still they wont connect. Before anyone says to 'RTFM', I have, and it doesnt cover the wireless side in depth, only says to enable it in the router's setup page, then connect with the computers.. Does anyone know of any guides online that could help me? thankyou in advance..
trashpickinman
did you disable the ad-hoc mode on the wireless network properties? also what OS and what is the model of the router?
ElectricDemon
disabled ad-hoc mode, windows just keeps prompting me to connect to a network when i click on the icon for the connection in the taskbar, I'ce tried numerous combinations in the network key, and tried it with 802.1x authentication, and without.. The router is a belkin 54g Wireless/DSL gateway router model#: F5D7230-4, os is Windows XP Pro SP1a. ElectricDemon
I've even dropped the firewall to see if that's causing any problems and that didnt help either...
Argonaut
first thing to start "isolating" problems is to disable wep. Try to get it running without encryption first.
mrogers
Check to make sure MAC address filtering is not enabled on the router.
ElectricDemon
done both of them already... i've re-set to the factory settings, checked each page and in theory, i should be able to connect with any wireless device, as it's 100% open
cjbeckwith
Are you using Microsofts wireless connection software or are you using Belkins software?
zivan56
Make sure they are all on the same channel also.
ElectricDemon
using ms's own wireless network system, channels are on 11 (the same), tried running different channels, but no change...I'm going to return the router anyway, as I still need to buy a DSL modem on top of this.. I'm going to get a ADSL modem with built in wireless router.
